Anyone tried a Bulwagga anchor?

I was reading this test and wondered if any C-Brats had tried the Bulwagga anchor. Looks like it is nice and light and holds very well. Not sure how well it would stow on the bow though.



Also not sure where to buy one although they seem to have something here.

They give dimensions so I'm thinking of building one in stainless.

Anchor "Tests" are very fickle. They are difficult to control--with the bottom never being the same. I have followed them for many years, and done some of my own.

The anchor you want is what will hold in your type of conditions. BUT if you care cruising, you want several anchor types. When we had big boats it was CQR 90% of the time, and Danforth 10%. When racing sailboats in S. Calif. it was Danforth 99% of the time. Currently I use Delta as the primary anchor. They hold well in most conditions. They fit well on bow rollers, they do not bend or deform easily. The back up is Fortress from 5 lbs as a stern anchor, and 37 lbs as a storm anchor. I also have a small Northill. I did some tests (again the problems with tests) and the Manson Supreme worked very well. That anchor went with the C Dory 25 when I sold it. I anchored about 100 nights with it and had excellent results--I might buy one over a Delta if purchasing one currently.

I have some construction issues with the Bulwagga--and the welds and types of metals/edges etc--but I am sure that under certain conditions they would be a fine anchor. You will rarely see one on a serious cruising boat however.

As you noted the Bulwagga is very awkard and would be hard to stow.

Brian,

Here in the PNW where we both live and where Dr. Bob has cruised extensively, a 22 lb. Delta Fast-Set works just fine. Set it on the bottom while in reverse, let out 5:1 scope and set it with 1500 rpm on one engine. Sleep tite!

There's a new "best ever" anchor out every few years, like the latest greatest new car or truck. Tried and true is sometimes best.

Wefings has a 22lb Delta for $154.95. That's pretty reasonable.
