The problem is that in this modern electronic world the consumer is constantly bombarded with updating to the latest ipad, or telecom device. It never ends. But you are certainly correct in that most charts for the most part are pretty accurate and the extraneous info is what often changes.

Just updated my Garmin 545 via computer and SD Card data update transfer to unit. Extremely easy self explanatory process. Now I just hope it does solve the problem of position wandering while underway. Great unit other than that and have little doubt it will.

Hi guys

I understand this came out in Nov 2011 but all the links on the Garmin site to software for marine GPS come up 404.

Anyone have any idea how I can get this software ?

The boat I'm about to buy has the plotter fitted and I don't think it's been updated since it was purchased in 2007.

Any help, much appreciated.

Where are you located? The links work for me. Go to Garmin.com and go to updatec links. To download some require a Garmin device to be connected, or will not work with a Mac.

Is it possible that some links are blocked?

The links seem fine from here. What model Garmin unit are you looking to update? I noticed the 450 reference in your subject line but can't find any marine model under that name. Is it the 451 by any chance. Only a handheld hiking type unit went by the 450 model number.

I'm in the UK

The device is the Garmin GPSMAP450. It was launched in 2007. It is a fixed mount 4" QVGA unit for boats. It is detailed in this thread for the 5.6 upgrade.

Garmin is definitely having problems with their website. Even though some of the main links work, when you actually get to the point where you download the software, it returns the following (or takes you back to the main "Device Software" page):



I just tried re-downloading the the GPSMap 740 update that I pulled down last week. It no longer works either. I'd call Garmin and let them know they have issues.

We got the same 404 Apache message trying to download updates for our 4208. First time in four plus years had any problems loading updates off the Garmin website. I'm sure they will get it figured out in a day or two.
