Hi I'm quite the noobie here and have been concerned about the c-dory, are there any 22 footers with a 8'6" beam? would a customized 22' with a beam like that of its bigger bros and sis give it more boyency or is just giving it too much float and won't plane under normal situations? |

The 22 design is already optimized in my opinion. If you want a wider boat, the C-Dory 25 is the one. _________________ Larry H

D58 Would you repeat the question? The CD22 planes at the drop of a hat. What are you looking for? _________________ CHARLIE and PENNY CBRAT #100

While the wider beam would make for improved room all around, it would proportionately shorten the boat. When they came up with the CD-19, the proportionately shorter and wider boat porpoised (pitched) up and down so much that trim tabs had to be added as a standard feature. Widening the 22 would probably do the same thing.
It would require more power and sit higher on the trailer over the wheels. Might actually have less of a tendency to want to broach in a following sea.
Most of us think the CD-22 is a great solution to all the traditional forced compromises and revere it's design as a classic and would view any major changes with skepticism. Still, progress is made through changes and experimentation! Joe. _________________ Sea Wolf, C-Brat #31
