Now there’s some famous words I can appreciate...

It was back in 1901 after Queen Victoria’s efforts to keep anything even remotely connected with tobacco in the shadows, till King Edward uttered the now famous words “Gentlemen, you may smoke”. Cool huh! Smile got that out of a book that has reinterested me in history. (now that’s a miracle in itself!) Shocked

Trying to hold it to just one a week, and on special occasions is kinda tough so far and I have a whole entire garage to go sit and enjoy the woodstove fire-view while partaking of this new discovery. Since one can last up to an hour! It’s becoming a great past time to take up with friends, while sitting and discussin stuff, like a bunch of Injuns relaxin’ and sittin-in-a-circle. Now I know there are some “seegar aficionados” out there---women included!. A day of enlightenment it is, when it’s no longer thought of as a “male-only bastion” and women discover what the big deal is themselves!.

If there is any interest here in the pub, I can introduce you to a source on the web (in the States) a friend here shared with me! A smoke that has the quality of a high-end-cigar, for the budget of a pauper!

Here’s to your mental health C-Brats! Cheers and have a good one for me down there!
Xmas LOL Xmas Eek Beer Beer (now we need a "Seegar icon")

Foxman:
Just so happens that on a recent trip to the Keys that my wife and I discovered a left over cigar from a guest we had in the Dry Tortugas. On our last night we decided to splurge and actually had dinner at a bayside bar called the "Lorelei". Having just enjoyed a great meal, my wife mentions the cigar and sends my son to fecth it. What a pleasant and relaxing moment we shared. Now we always partake on special occasions and YES it is tough not to have a "special" occasion every week!! Enjoy...

You can smoke all you want too, just don't stink up the air that I breath. Thats one thing I like about California- the smoking ban in restaurants. Nothing worse than trying to enjoy a good meal with second hand smoke coming from the next table. Mr. Green Razz

All the more reason you can keep California till the population wakes up.

A good meal is not complete without a good single malt and a quality cigar.

Nothing like the government telling a private business owner what they can and cannot do on their own premises.

Cheers,

Dan

Dan-
I will be the first to say that we are way over regulated in California. But on the other hand, when courtesy and common decency are gone we have the ability to legislate.
Due to allergies, I have had to get up and walk away from a few good meals because some inconsiderate smoker couldn't wait light up.
I'm not denying you your right to smoke, just don't deny me my right to breath.

Gentlemen, you may smoke. Outside.

Cheers,

Except in downtown Del Mar, CA (and maybe a few more cities here.)

Hi Roger - I would never, ever impose my cigar smoke on you.

Any restaurant owner should be free to say "no smoking in my privately owned business." And you should be free to choose only to do business with those restaurants. But the fact that you dislike or even have health issues with my cigar smoke, or a woman's perfume, or anything else you find offensive, should have no impact on my choices as a free citizen, in a private business.

I don't take my child to a restaurant that allows smoking but as an adult, I certainly should have the right to smoke in a privately owned business that has chosen to allow smoking.

This has gone way too far - in fact now there are towns that have outlawed smoking in public!

God Bless America - the land that was.

Dan

Gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen...let's keep politics out of it, can we? After all, it's the holiday season. I don't smoke cigars, but I found the little history lesson interesting.

Well stated, and I like that handle! I would love to try a gun of that calliber, saw a shell of one one time.... I was in awe! Xmas Eek

I was in one of our old historic bars once, (up the highway),really a cool old place to stop and have good burger and brew, then park for camping and a fire by the river. Anyway, they have a sign in the bar/restaurant that goes something like this; “Non-smoking area----Outside” (LOL) Now that’s funny! I didn’t appreciate it then (before I discovered cigars) but I do now. I used to have an attitude towards smokers, but learning to appreciate and “take tobacco” once in a while, has given me a much better outlook on the whole thing. (Easier to live with myself to that way—lol) I definitely agree with both, I remember how awful it was when someone would light-up on a jet plane, and you were forced to breath it! (Same in some public places.)
From what I read in that great book (“The Ultimate Cigar Book”) More are discovering and there are more “public places” to “light up” actual events for aficionados Yeah! And ya can’t go makin the same “rules” everywhere either!! I hope there is at least some of the “old west” left in this land.

James and Betty. Right on man!! I loved that story. It was when a bud of mine slipped a fine “Hamilton” into my pocket, as mom and I were on our way back out to RedFox, that I got to partake it… there was no way I could finish it! And I knew from the very first puff…. I was “in trouble” (lol) there just too good and relaxin’ Razz (took me two-weeks to finally get to the end of my first-ever seegar—lol)

Here’s what I ordered, that seems to be almost perfect for me so far. Like I said, a fine seegar (like about a 6 or 7 dollar unit) at a cost of a little over 2$ each!
http://www.discountcigars.org/ (look for "HOYO de MONTERREY" (Rothschilds) that will take you to the place… but remember; (I think) most the time, when ordering a box like this (50) they need to sit in a humidor for a few months, to get there natural moisture back. I tried one soon as my order got in a couple months ago, and there was no way…. It was way to harsh! Aged a couple months in a tight box with some moistened sticks of cedar (my method and “humidor”) and they were to die for!! LOL

Just what the “PUB” needed … a Seegar thread! Xmas LOL Xmas Tongue Moon (puff puff) I’m out… (for the moment)
Very Happy

Red Fox,
I also enjoy a good cigar. There are so few places where this is possible so I often enjoy mine on the water while fishing or anchored. I have a little cigar story to lighten up this thread. Last year on my summer fishing trip my buddy's girlfriend came along. My buddy doesn't smoke so I often went for a walk after dinner to smoke a cigar. I told them I was doing down to the docks for a "big stinky"( my son gave my cigars that nick-name many years ago). His girlfriend gave me this strange look and said sarcastically "thanks for sharing that." Later my friend told me that was the term she had used while potty training her kids! We all had a good laugh when she realized I was talking about having a cigar.

LOL well thanx for the story  So true how that “pungent-perfume” totally takes a place over!
As a child I always loved the aroma of my uncles pipe and passing by a “smoke shop” in the malls here in Anchorage (back when it was a les-regulated mess than it is now) the aroma of that fine pipe-tobacco would almost make me salivate! I took up the pipe when I was in early 20s. Now, while the world frowns on it… I’m just getting started again! LOL
If I discover any more fine smokes… I’ll post a link. Gonna take me forever to go through what I now have though! A friend told me the other day; it is customary to have a cigar on Christmas day! Xmas Tongue
Yes. So true about being out on our CDs and enjoying them in the great outdoors, specially around a fire!
