Anyone (Other than Jim - I know his story!) have any hints or instructs on how to remove the wiper arm from the motor shaft ? Yes Jim, I know that the size of hammer will make a big difference.. Very Happy

only a barbarian would use a hammer! I used a hacksaw and other electrical tools of destruction. Go get a bottle of wd 40 or some sort of penetrating oil. spray it the day before and let it soak in. It helps cool the saw Twisted Evil

Would it be any easier to remove the boat from the wiper arm than the wiper arm from the boat?

On my boat, there were two setscrews that held the wiper arm on to the shaft. One was clearly visible, but the other was hidden on the opposite side of the shaft.

Once I found the second setcrew, I was able to return the mallet to the toolbox.

Of course, Dave is exaggerating again. I've told him a million times to not do that. Wink I couldn't come up with a "windshield wiper shaft puller" tool, but a cutting wheel on my Dremmel worked just fine. Swearing is optional. If someone could come up with a weld that holds like the windshield wiper arm bonded to the motor shaft, we probably could have saved some effort on the trailer. Rolling Eyes

We'll be home in a couple weeks, Dave. Bring Fan-C-Dory down. My experience cutting that wiper motor shaft isn't current, but it is seared into my addled mind. I can't swear in Chinese, but I may have a few adaptations of popular phrases you haven't heard before.

Good luck with the project.

Best wishes,
Jim

We'll watch for you in the Sprinter. Flash the lights, wave, hang Snack out the window... so we know it's you. You have our number still? If we are going to cross paths, might be fun to stop for the night, just to catch up. (Insert your favorite West Texas joke here)

We're still in the desert. Now in Laughlin; day-tripped to Vegas today. It's been a while since we were there. Pretty sure I used the phrase, "Hooooooo-weeeeeee!" enough times to thoroughly embarrass Joan. What can I say? It's a gift.

Best wishes,
Jim

Jack-

This is one solution I suggested in an earlier thread:

Self-explanatory!

You may need one of the tools that Joe just posted. After a little salt and corrosion the wiper hub is tough to get off. And you don't have a lot of room up under there to even use the allen you need.

Looks like another "gotta have" tool.
