does any one have one of the new cd 26 venture? and are they an up grade from the 25 or does the deeper v just defeat the purpose of the C Dory hull.

Hi Duff,

This is just one guy's opinion... the CD-25 and the V-26 are really similar. The V-26 is finished a bit nicer and has a little more of a V, but not enough that it defeats anything. In its original concept, the 23 and 26 were direct competition with the C-Dorys. I'd call them "tweaks" or slight modernizations.

Being in Montana, you can't just stroll down to your nearest dealer to compare them, but you might consider a "mini-escape" and run out to the Seattle Boat Show. Not sure what models will be on display, but you will certainly get to meet some other Brats, and likely meet owners of each model you are considering. Going to the show in 2006 was a deciding factor for us.

Good luck with your search.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Duff: Glad to have you aboard as a new member and see you posting and looking.

David is correct, and I will have to lean on some of our other "more site savvy" C-Brats to pull our a search...but, I can recall at one time there being a great side by side comparison of the two boats. Mabye prior to day's end they can/will find it and pop it up here. I think most of all the bad that surrounded the timing of all of that has been settled and gone...so, maybe for those today looking and comparing, it would be good to see it.

I have not ridden out on the 26 but did enjoy a nice day in Naples on the 23. The 23 is real sweet, and I liked the bit wider interior. We went slow, mid speeds, fast....and back to slow and it seem to do great in all operational ranges.

Hope this gets you closer to the information you are seeking...and Jim has a great idea about the show in about a month... It should be time for the dealers to start posting what boats are going to be where....but, there are as always last minute suprises and changes simply due to shipping the boats in the winter months....which,...the Seattle show should be less effected than over here on the eastern side.

Welcome again.

Byrdman

Like Jim said the Cape Cruiser's were in direct competition with C-dory back in 06-07 .C-Dory (Sea sport) now owns all the molds for c-dory and venture hulls
The venture 26 is very similar to the venture 23 big difference is 3ft longer for a head and more storage also it is 8 1/2 beam vs. 8ft for venture 23 they both have same deadrise and entry also reverse chines.
Now the difference between the 25vs 26 The 26 has 5 degrees vs. 2 degrees dearise but the entry is much more evident it 's 25degrees for the 26venture vs maybe 15 or so I'm not sure for the 25 but the venture definatley is deeper which give a better ride in the chop .Also the venture series have deeper reverse chines for tracking .The weight difference in the 26 vs 25 is only a few hundred pounds 3800lb vs 3600lb from their brochure's.They both will run very well with 150hp -200hp .Both are great trailerable cruisers go try them both then decide .

Actually the entry for the Venture series is somewhere around 50 degrees, tapering off to that 4-5 degrees aft. The Classic series is 4 degrees, so the difference isn't much aft.

The deeper entry does give a slightly better ride in a chop, and means you can maintain a bit more speed while maintaining a comfortable ride. I compare the Venture hull more to a modified V than the Classic's truer Dory shape. But they have more in common than not.

Inside, the 25 has more headroom, and the classic finished fiberglass interior. The Venture has a full fiberglass liner, with upholstered interior surfaces and headliner. Having just ridden in a 23 Venture we sold, I can say the boat seems quieter, with no condensation on the interior surfaces (except the windows, of course).

The 25 has a self bailing cockpit, which means it needs aft rails for safety (standard). The 26V has a full height transom, which eliminates the two jump seats in the aft corners like the 25 has. The 26V has storage boxes port and starboard in the transom, the 25 has storage boxes in the deck. The 26V has storage in the cockpit steps.

The 26V has tilt wheel, and an upgraded wheel and helm seat, as well as additional storage drawers. The 26V has the sliding forward dinette seat to create a forward facing seat, the 25 has a stationary seat base, but has the back rest change position. The 26V has a slightly larger head.

I like both boats, and right now we have a new 2009 26V in stock (will be at the Seattle Boat Show) and a used 2005 25 Cruiser in the water at our dock. With 175 HP Engine and trailer, the 26V is reduced to $99,995. The used 2005 is $67,300 with 150 and 15 Hondas, but no trailer. New trailer would be $5250.

There will not be a 25 Classic at the Boat Show as neither we nor Master Marine has one in stock.

Hope this helps!

Being over 6' 3" tall I have been interested in the headroom on the two boats. The online brochures indicate that the 25 Cruiser has "over 6' 10" of headroom" vs "over 6' 4" " for the 25 Venture. I'm trying to decide between these two boats as well -- without seeing them in person -- and this headroom issue seems pretty important.

I'm heading south from VA in January to check out dealers in NC and FL. Hopefully, I'll get to see both boats in person. Haven't been able to find an east coast boat show that will include C-Dory's.

I too am 6'3" and preferred the extra headroom in the 25 classic. If you like having grabrails mounted in the ceiling, they stay out of bashing range on the 25 and I don't need to hunch over all the time in general because my hair is not tickling the roof.

In addition to the lower headroom, another important issue to consider is the narrower cabin in the 26. This is caused by the wider outside gunnel walkways to the bow on both sides. That may be nice for bow access, but it reduces interior cabin space. At 6'8¼" myself, I had to stoop inside the 26 and the narrower cabin aisle was a tighter fit. The overall feel was cramped for me. My stature is exceptional, of course, but anyone in the 6'3" and up range should give careful consideration to these two aspects of the 26 cabin. The 25 is just plain roomy.

Well.... do be sure to get in the water and run both boats. Anything rides and handles well on the concrete floors and bright lights. Just a thought.

If your down in sw fl anytime this winter send me a pm I can show you a v23 the major difference is 3 ft longer for the bathroom and a storage counter .Its also 6 in wider for the venture 26 .

I believe the 25 is a different style of boat from the 22, 23 and 26. To me the 23 is a natural progression of the 22. It has a smoother ride, wider beam, full height motor well, wider gunnel for mounting downriggers, roomier cockpit, taller cabin, better sight lines and a roomier cabin. In addition when Cape Cruiser first made them, they had a flat cockpit floor that was easier to stand on while fishing and the molded cabinets which may or may not be upgrades depending on your opinion. The 26 is a 23 with a head and a storage locker. On the other hand the 25 is a self bailing vessel that has less freeboard in the cockpit and the resulting handrail for safety. That higher cockpit also gives you a higher center of gravity while fishing in rough water.

We went with the CD-26V for the ride, the configuration of the head, and the finish. Though we didn't sea trial a 25, the dealer explained the difference between the hull design of the 25 and 26, and a few things swayed us to the 26. The 26 has a little more v forward to cut the chop and improve the ride. It is a little heavier, which also improves the ride. We liked the finish better than the CD-25. The floor has a fiberglass liner, so you are not walking on the hull. It has an insulated headliner, which in Florida helps with keeping the boat cool, reduces condensation, and also reduces noise. We also liked the configuration of the head in the 26 better than the 25. It is larger, faces fore and aft, and, in the case of our boat, has a standard head and holding tank. I am 6'2" and have about an inch between my head and the air conditioner, and a couple of inches everywhere else. I have no issue with the headroom. Both are great boats. All boats are a compromise and you just pick the one that fits your boating situation the best. We really like the CD-26V for our situation and are very happy with our purchase.
