I believe BRAZO owned one before his CD22. He should be a valuable source of information and will probably respond here. If not, shoot him a PM.

Yes, we had a 32' Sundowner Tug for 6 years. Great boats and nicely priced compared to the Nordic Tug. We loved the boat and hated to sell it, but we needed something more "travelable" - so the C-Dory worked out great.

Certainly the boats are 100% different - one is a tank in the water and the other is very light. We miss very little about the Sundowner Tug (meaning, we like the C-Dory better) - mainly the ability to have multiple places to sit (pilothouse, salon, cockpit, etc). Other than that, we would not trade the C-Dory for our old boat. We love that we can trailer it - took 2 trips 14 hours one way from our house with the boat behind the truck. We also love the simplicity of the C-Dory.

Depending on your needs, the Sundowner was a great boat. They are well built and ride the water great. We had a 32' Sundowner that was loaded with all the extras - Cummins 210hp, generator, autopilot, and on and on.

Oh, and make sure you like Teak - we had a lot of teak and loved it for a few years, but the upkeep takes a bit of doing. That being said, the teak on the boat was great - we always had people stopping by the boat to admire - just like our C-Dory 22 now (but now they seem to have a slight smirk on their face).

Not sure if this helps, but please e-mail me any questions regarding the Sundowner or C-Dory (we have the CD22).

We love our C-Dory and would not go back to a "bigger" trawler any time soon. We travel at trawler speeds most of the time with the C-Dory.

Here is a link to some pictures of our boat. The 32' has a wider beam (12') and has the full walk-around decks.

Ya that helps. there is a beautiful one in idaho in fresh water 1982 nice shape but my regal 2665 is trailerable and i love that to. so you wouldn,t give up the mobility for space? what was the differance in the fuel economy. abd did you feel they were as well built as the nordic tug.
thanks Duff

No, we would not give up the mobility for the space. We spent 5 wks (2 different trips) on the CD22 with 4 of us (wife, myself, 16yr old, 11yr old) and had no problems at all. In fact, with out the mobility of the CD22 - we would not have had the time to take these trips. We find that we are off the boat exploring much of the time anyway, so space is not an issue. Would we love to have the space of the Sundowner and ALL the other benefits of a CD22 - sure would, but not going happen.

The Sundowner would burn around 2 gph (Cummins 210hp) going around 7kts. The CD22 with just one 50hp (we have twin 50hp), we would burn around 1 gph going 7kts - the C-Dory gets great fuel economy. We also loved the ability to "go fast" when we desired - at the end of the day, etc.

We always felt that our Sundowner was as good or better than the 32' Nordic. We had full walk arounds on our boat, which the 32' Nordic did not. Also, our boat was built for the grandson of Champion Spark Plugs - so he left no stone unturned.
