Well there are 2 ways to look at this, at least at my level.

1. Pray that Raymarine service is picked up by some small English company. One can still buy new Triumph parts for instance.

2. There will be a lot of good closeout sales on Raymarine equipment.

I would be surprised if any existing electronics company picks up Raymarine. The only reason to buy Raymarine would eb to eleiminate a competitor, and it looks like Raymarine may eliminate themselves.

Of course this will make people hesitant to buy Raymarine, which will drive sales down even further, reducing revenue, and it becomes a spiral downward.

I have a S1000 autopilot on backorder through Fisheries Supply. I am thinking I should cancel the order (if they will let me) and try to find one elsewhere. Any suggestions or advice on how I should proceed? The 22 has a Raymarine C-80 and radar and I am willing to take the risk that it may be an orphan. But I converted to hydraulic steering with the idea that I would install an autopilot.

I suspect that Garmin may still buy RayMarine, but with the current financial status, they may just be waiting until the stock is down to penny status. There is certainly brand and techology which is of value.

On the other hands, certainly marine electronic companies have gone out of business in the last few years--some even before the current recession hit.

This perception will further hurt their sales.
