My 1985 C-Dory 22 Angler Classic has two twelve gallon tanks in the stern compartment. I would like to replace them with one larger capacity gas tank.Does anyone know if they sell a single replacement tank that could replace mine. I am not sure how to add an attachment to a post but i have a picture of my gas tanks in my album..Thanks |

Why do you want one large tank instead of two 12 gals.? I had two 12 gal tanks in my classic and had them plumbed separately but through a common Racor filter. Two tanks give you redundancy; ie. if you have fuel flow problems you can do the switchy/changy to find the problem.
With one tank; any problem and you are dead in the water or going over the dam.
I also carried a new spare complete fuel hose set-up that plugged into either tank on one end and the motor on the other. That way the entire tank/hoses/filter could be by passed in an emergency.
I used all of that at one time or another while owning my 22'.
Good luck with what ever you come up with. _________________ On the HIGH TIDE-II, wife Carolyn and I.....Another summer fishing on the HIGH TIDE II in the Cook Inlet at Cape Ninilchik, Alaska.

Thanks ,that makes alot of sense to me. Relieing on just one tank and one fuel delivery system could lead to serious problems or at best a bad day on the water.Twelve gallon tanks are a little easier to move around also.Think i will take your advice and keep the gas tanks i have already..... |

If you wanted to add more fuel capacity (for longer tripping), you might look at saddle tanks (see the Catch 22 album for Kevins I believe, or Oldgrowth Dave's saddle tanks on the stretched 16)
Do a search for Saddle AND tanks and there will be many hits.

Harvey...More fuel capacity for longer trips is what i first had in mind. I will check out those saddle tanks you mentioned. I am still mulling over the idea of one larger tank to replace my two (12 ) twelve gallon tanks and keeping them as spares. Lots of good options to look over......I read on a few posts that RedFox had done alot of modifications to his C-Dory but i am unable to open any of his links. Can anyone tell me how i can open his albums.Thanks. |

I'm planning on a couple of 24-gallon saddle tanks by Moeller for my boat project. This model is fairly wide however and would protrude into the cockpit area a few inches past the six-inch wide gunwale.
Greg's old Web sites were on MSN and they decided to no longer be a host. They're apparently just gone. Greg's tanks also protruded into the cockpit area; I'm not certain of the brand and model he installed but in my recollection of his photos they showed a tank of about the same size as the Moeller 24-gallon saddle tanks.
On my boat, I'm planning on redoing the gunwales anyway, so I'll widen them to enable coverage of the tanks on the top. Since they're 'below decks' tanks they'll also be hidden by fiberglass covers but for a window facing forward to allow a visual check of the levels.

I have seen a couple of C Dory 22's with a single aluminum (custom made) which filled up both sides and the middle of the area under the splash well. It was considerably larger than the standard tanks.
Although there may be a slight protection with two tanks--it is very likely that you will buy contaminated fuel for both tanks. Many boats have a single tank--and as long as you have good filters, and back up elements you should be OK. A completely separate system (kicker with separate fuel tank) would be the best redancy. _________________ Bob Austin
