the durn paint was flaking off my 1999 honda 40's. The local dealer was little help in my quest for some touch up paint. After some internet searching I found honda had spray paint availble for about $25 a can, or, for $6 you can get a spray can of Dupli-color wheel paint #HWP 101 from the local parts store. I went the $6 route, did a little sanding to feather out the edges of the remaining paint and gave it a squirt...it looks good. If you're looking for a perfect match, get the Honda paint, if an almost near, exact, dead on match is good enough, the $6 paint is mighty fine.....I would wager if I squirted some clear coat on, it would be dead on perfect.

Ken,
Good info. The paint is coming off of my 2002 200hp Honda also.
I just put it away for the winter but am planning on a paint repair in the spring. I was going to try and find some light gray spray on pick-up bed liner and give it a try. But maybe your solution is better. Let me know how it lasts in the weather.
Thanks,
Jack

Ken - How much to paint my Honda 15 cover? I don't do well with the artistic stuff.

I had some damage to the cowling of one of my Yamaha 150s in Florida and my local auto body shop (Dunton's in Anacortes -- great folks, BTW) repaired and repainted it perfectly.

FWIW.

When I looked a couple of years ago, even the decals were available to make them look "new" again.

We had a couple pieces on the lower cowling on our Honda replaced last spring... under warranty. The paint was peeling off. Our neighbor is a boat builder/Honda OEM dealer. He looked at the peeling paint and said, "When we see that, we generally just replace the part. We haven't had much luck getting the paint to stick once it starts to peel." I also found out that he gets the mark-up on the part as well as the labor from Honda. I was just planning to repaint the lower cowling - I had no idea that cosmetics were covered by the extended Honda warranty.

If it wasn't a "covered" issue, I would have repainted it. A "really close" paint match would satisfy me. Prime it, sand it, paint it.

Best wishes,
Jim B.
