I have a line a a couple of repo C-Dory's and a couple of Skagits. These are brand new boats. I would like any input on real market value. If any of you have any interest let me know. I'm thinking about selling my Osprey and maybe keeping the 27 Skagit.

2008 C-Dory 29 Venture w/ Yanmar diesel

2008 Skagit Orca 27 XLC no motors, set up for twin outboards.

2008 Skagit Orca 24 no power.

2003 C-dory 23 Venture no power.

Something wrong here I don't think they made a 23' Venture in 2003 and the 29' was a pretty big flop I understand.

These were to be sold at a dealers auction. They were repossessed from a dealer by a bank (Key). Did a dealer buy them? What price do you think the 29 Venture will bring.

Curious

Not sure what the 29 Venture will do. The boat had a list price of 197k, the bank note is around 130k. I don't think it will reach that number though. I only found 1 for sale online on the east coast for only 89k. Sounds pretty cheap to me. It's an 08 with about 200 hours but no trailer, but it does have electronics.

The Venture 29 is very much an "oprhan" boat. There were maybe two built--and not sure if any were sold? The "boat show special"--$12,000 off was $180K. See: http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t=7841&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

My personal feeling is that the 29 will be a very difficult boat to sell. There seem to be a number of short commings about it--and I suspect that it pretty much contributed to the "sinking" of the owners of the company during that peroid. There were lots of tooling and developement costs which were never recouped.

I would say that IF you could find a buyer (and I guess, If was buying that specific boat, I would modify it before use--more thousands of dollars), you might start in the $80,000 range. (There is a 2008 Venture 29 for sale in NH, at $89,000--and I assume that it is used lightly) If lucky you might get more. What is unknown is the ergonomics of the helm and navigator's seat. But my recollection is that those who had looked at it, felt that the view to the port side was blocked by the head for the helmsman, and foreward for the navigator. Also there was some comment about the steepness of the step into the head.

The Venture 23, should discount at least 30%--no warantee, no engine, no rigging, and I assume that no electronics etc. So I would look somewhere in the high 30's. (sure its a bargin at that price, but the new boats are being made now, and they would be waranteed)

Some pretty steep discounts. Too bad that the 29 isn't a better boat--be interesting to see how it really runs, and if bought correctly what it would take to make a "good boat" out of it....now if I was younger.....

I can buy the 23 in the mid to low 30's. It has a Honda motor on it now but the sale does not include the motor. I'd kind of like to guage the interest in the boat before I put out the money.

A rigged 2010 23 Venture will be at boat shows around $69K. Without power and trailer, Figure $49K.

The 29 Venture- what engine does it have. There were about eight of that model built. The smaller Yanmar was a bit underpowered as I understand it.

Personally, I like the boat. There are some good features to it. However, it does not appeal to the C-Dory buyer. Never will. But there is a market for that boat. At $130K, it would still be a good buy. If it could be sold for under $100K, I think it would be a GREAT value for someone. The boat can sleep six, has a dinette can that seat six, and is economical to run.

As a dealer, we think the boat had potential, with only a few changes, but it doesn't appeal to the C-Dory owners on this site, and I don't really know why (other than the inboard and possibly that it isn't as simple as the smaller boats).

Matt, I am not sure about the others, but I'll speak for myself regarding the 29. To me, it looks like an inboard clorox bottle. Too big, slab sided and plain old awkward looking.

I think all C-Dory's are awkward looking. I sold a 19 C-Dory last summer. I took my wife and kids out for the day on it before it sold. It's definitely a different kind of boat.

Wait, wait, wait, slow down - those are fighting words on this site :) . Kind of like calling my kid ugly.

But understood, I guess.

You're too kind...I'd describe that hunk of Latham in far less polite terms.

Let's just say...if my wife were as ugly as a 29, I'd have a mistress. Shocked

Fortunately, she's cute as a 16.

crikey, there are whole threads about how cute and adorable they are! We hear it all the time. My wife says it while we are cruising thru the rain with the wipers going, snug and comfy and dry.
They are cute and adorable and tough! George Laughing
