Does anyone know of a source for bunk carpet in longer than 12' pieces? The bunks on my trailer are 13' 2.5" and I can't find any suitable carpet in over 12'. I was looking for blue, but at this point I will take whatever i can get. _________________ Not a C-Dory owner but a lover of the forum and the spirit of adventure found here. You could use 10-12' and put one of the plastic covers (eastern marine) over the front 4'. (can add right over the carpet) Boat will probably slide off better when the rear end is floating off the carpet too.
Like 2nd picture in Trailer Mods. Just a thought.

I found mine on eBay in 33' lengths. One for each side for my 25 trailer worked out perfect. I can find the link when I get home if you want. _________________ TyBoo Mike

Here you go (eBay link). This is the stuff I got.
Each side of my trailer has a long bunk, a shorter bunk, and a side guide. Two of these carpet runners at the 33' length was just right. This carpeting is thicker than the fleece-like stuff that was on there. It has a rubbery backing and appears to be actual indoor/outdoor carpeting. The 21" width wrapped the 2x6 bunks with a nearly full overlap on the bottom side. The only real problem was the thickness needs longer staples than are available at the local Home D. But with the full overlap, the brackets keep the carpet from coming off even if the staples don't hold.
I have launched/retrieved a couple times since I put it on there and it works just as well as the original. I fully submerge my trailer when I can so I float almost all the way on.
The guy's shipping charges seem a little high, but the carpet price is good. I used PayPal to pay him and the order shipped out right away. Depending, of course, on how it holds up, I would buy the same stuff again.
And hey, check out the color. |

West Marine has bunk carpet in both 12 and 16 foot rolls. I just got 2. The 16 ftrs come in 18" wide for covering 2X6 bunks. Their main warehouse was out but the 1-800 sales guy gave me some local stores that had the items in stock. Called there and with a bit of pla$tic, had the package in 2 days. The color was the same choices as Henry's Model T. (It's what they make so blacks what you get.)

Thanks Harvey, I saw that the main warehouse was out of stock, but never thought to call other stores. I will give that a try on Monday. |
