We had a great day of lobster diving today. Between three of us we caught 14 lobster off the coast of Marblehead. One of my buddies took a picture of Napoleon's fish box loaded with "bugs" as we call them out here but I wanted to share a picture of the dinner table. The meat was as fresh as it gets and sweet!

Matt, I showed Sally and she's ready to leave for our house in Maine right now! We're going up there in Sept for a couple of months and hopefully she'll be able to get her fill then. Have not been there since May 08 and miss it. Have taken it off the market and plan to rent it next summer and hang on until the market comes back.

How do you get the critters off the bottom? They don't come with rubber bands on the claws and I know they really can grab you hard!

Charlie

I grew up in Maine, there is nothing like a good Maine lobster!

I coax them out of their caves with a tickle stick (gently touch their tail) then grab them quickly on the carapace. You have to flip them over to make sure they are not females carrying eggs or a "v-notch" and you have to measure them. If they are the minimum size, and not over the max size, they are keepers. If they are carrying eggs or have a v-notch you have to put them back.

If they get a hold of you it hurts Shocked

Do you stick them in a bag or something then? Or do you just cook them right then and there with an underwater torch? Shocked

Right into a catch bag then into the fish box until the transport home. The fish boxes are great for lobster.

Reminds me of my days diving bugs in HI...we ate so much, I literally could not eat them any longer. BUT if you were nearby, we could trade for dungeness crab (when the are in season) or fresh albacore sashimi...yumm, yumm!

Ah, the fine memories you brought back - we were briefly in Maine last fall, and El had lobster at least once a day. We'll be back this fall and she's counting the days ...
