For all you CDory types in the Portland/Vancouver region. Lake Merwin is pumping out some nice kokanee. I put the boat in at about 7:15 this morning, and had the boat back on the trailer about 9:30, with a nice limit of kokes. The average fish was 13", with one over 15". I also went up to Yale (limit is 16 kokanee at Yale) and added a few more. The fish there averaged 10-12 inches.
Firing up the smoker tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip. Did you see the picture of the 4 1/2 pounder on the ODFW website? Don't know where it came from but am hearing some almost unbelievable reports about the kokanee this year in wickiup. |

Steve,
Are over nighters ok on Merwin? The wife and I have thought about heading up to the lake to stay the night. I hear the backdrop for all three is beautiful.
Thanks.

Bryrick, the issue is parking. The only public launch that I am familiar with is Speelyai, and you can not park overnight there. There is a park at the east end of the lake that may have a launch, but I have not explored it. When we overnight, we stay at a relative's place at Camper's Hideaway. I suspect that both Yale and Swift have better provisions for an overnight. All are beautiful. |
