Happy New Year to all. The Seventh (7th) Annual Delta/Bay Extravaganza is now scheduled for Wednesday, May 13th, to Sunday, May 17th, 2009. Please mark your calendars if you are interested in attending.

Hopefully, a sign-up sheet will be opened up for this event. This event will likely be limited to the first ten boats that sign up for it because we had to pay for reservations at San Francisco’s South Beach Harbor one year in advance, and they would only allow ten boats.

I just talked to John and Robin (Dinner Belle II), and they will be there. Jim and Kath (Pounder) will also be there. Therefore, there is room for only eight (Cool more boats to sign up.

Several boats in the past have signed up for this event and took up valuable reservation space from others that wanted to come but then these folks dropped out right before the event. Please do not sign up for this event unless you feel you will really show up.

As always, more details will follow overtime. We look forward to seeing old friends again and meeting some new friends.

Sincerely,

Jim

I certainly have to give this event a "10". One of the best of the C Dory cruises!

Unfortunately, we are often not able to be sure what our plans are this far ahead of schedule (elderly and ill mother in law).

Is it possiable to have alternatives for those limited nights when there are only XX number of boat slips avialable? For example, if there is not room at South Beach--is there an alternative, for others at some other near by place?

Hi Bob:

Being the winner of the tattoo contest, it sure was great having you last year at the event. We know what you mean about the difficulties of scheduling in advance being elderly and all, but we certainly think of you as young at heart.

This event is somewhat problematic for scheduling. There is no boat limit problem at Rio Vista or Petaluma. There is the practical boat limit at the Duck Club of about ten boats because of the limited dock length. Also when we get into SF Bay it gets more difficult. Sausalito is generally fine for about 10 boats but San Francisco is the most difficult situation. Last year we could not even get into SF because we did not make reservations a year in advance, and had to go over to Oakland (where we still had fun at the BBQ place).

In our six years of doing this urban boating event, we have not been able to figure out how to get around the reservation problem with doing double booking at multiple places. For us it can become somewhat of a logistical nightmare because we have to make the reservations so far in advance. For example if we wanted to add some more boats at say Jack London Square, for the overflow at SF, we still would have to have confirmed reservations at Oakland. Also, what fun would it be to have half the group on the other side of the Bay.

We would really like to have you come again as you are an inspiration for us all and one of the most knowledgeable guys around. We also would not mind seeing if you really have a wife.

Either take a chance and sign up now and tell us as soon as you know you would have to drop out, or wait until all the places are booked and try to sneak in at the last minute. Under this later situation you could anchor out at Angel Island while we were in SF, though I don’t know how much fun that would be. I say just sign up now!

Sincerely,

Jim

Happy New Year Jim,

We've heard from several "Brats" that the Delta Cruise is the greatest! Very Happy

We finally have the Marcia Jane ready for cruising and are really looking forward to this event. It's on the calendar! Let's hope for great weather.

Regards,

Kent & Marcia

Thanks Jim,
We have to wait, and would not take a place which another boat might be deprived of. But if we can make it, we have always been creative in finding moorage. Marie really wants to come~!

Jim,

Thank you for taking the time and energy to plan this event. I live about 12 miles from South Beach Harbor which I figure is about perfect for a first cruise since if I forget anything it’s a quick ride home. I really want to join the boats at South Beach since this will be my first C-brat cruise, but have a slip at Oyster Point Marina, about 8nm. south that I would be happy to let someone else use.

Due to Oyster Point Marina being reconfigured for a ferry later in 2009/2010 I believe that there may be a number of transient slips currently available there, although they would be interspersed with other boats, not as a block. In the same cove are Oyster Cove Marina and Brisbane Marina, but I am not aware of their availability. Also, to the north, you may find that there is increased availability in San Francisco due to the economy. If I can be of assistance in this matter please pm me.

I look forward to finally meeting some of the folks whose postings I’ve been reading for so long as well as turning some cyber friends into real life friends.

Happy New Year Jim and Kathy-
Thanks for the card- Looks like you two were having fun in Europe.
I am, again, taking classes at the local CC. It looks like I'll be missing another great cruise this year.
Thanks for all your effort and dedication in setting up this cruise every year.

We hope to try and make it up that way later on.

It sounds as if the overflow could go to Oyster point (etc) and take a taxi for evening festivities?

Bob,

I imagined that either we could leave one slip open for people to share a ride over, or some of us at South Beach Harbor could go pick them up.

One of the advantages of that stretch of water is that it is relatively smooth compared to crossing the bay, or getting the ocean swells north of the Bay Bridge and so it is a quick ride over by water.

However, if we are going to use ground transit, such as taxis, then Pier 39, or the transient slips in San Francisco Harbor (W37 48' 35" N122 25' 15") are much closer and connected by taxi and streetcar, as well as being a pleasant 2 1/2 mile walk along the waterfront. Oyster point (etc) is convenient by water, but not as convenient by land.

Have we tried Pier 39? I could call around, but I don't want to muddy the water if Jim, or someone else, is already working on it, but I'm happy to do it if it's OK with him. About how many spaces would you guess we will be looking for?

Great news Jim and Kath, you happened to match MY plans -- I've signed up for LIFE for this event, it's a biggy for sure. Kidding aside, thanks so much for organizing and handling the reservations year after year, you're the best. Looking forward to it -- now I better get to the signup sheet before I'm anchored at Angel Island for the whole trip...

Steve-

Kath and I are so happy that you are coming! That is great.

Dear All-

We are now at the 1/2 way point on our sign up sheet. Including Dinner Belle II (who does not use this internet), we now have 5 boats reserved for the trip (4 on the list plus Dinner Belle II). We have room for up to 5 more boats, or ten in total. Sign up early if you really want to go, as these last five spaces could go pretty fast.

Sincerely,

Jim

Jim, I shall join you this year, having been inspired last year by watching your group assemble in Rio Vista. I shall look for an Event list on the website, but count me in.

Pounder - I will attend some of the functions, but will not need a berth as I am in Sausalito. Look forward to it. If you would like to have dinner @ Scomas I could probably make sure room would be available.
