We just moved up to Juneau and would love to talk with anyone who fishes up here. I have seen many C-Dory boats out in the Auke Bay area.
Where are the good fishing grounds up here? You don't have to give up your secret spot, just the area would be great!
Thanks,
Julie |

Unfortunately I don't know about fishing in the Juneau area, but nice to hear from you again. Congrats on your choice of a new home port. _________________ Steve & Carmen

Two years ago we caught a 100lb halibut about 1 mile from the Auke Bay marina entrance on a bump at about 100 feet. Have tried there a few times since with no luck. It's a bit of a pain to drift for halibut there due to the frequent wakes.
I'm not much of a salmon fisherman, but have had some luck about ten miles northwest of Auke Bay along the NW part of Shelter Island, and also on around Point Retreat heading south about three miles from the point, near False Point Retreat.
There's a ton of good fishing available further out, all along Icy Strait, in Cross Sound, and on the outside south of Cross Sound. _________________ Richard Cook

Jeff & Julie;
Welcome to Juneau!
You may want to start with the most popular place for salmon fishing, the "Breadline". You can read an article on it from the Juneau Empire web link below.
http://www.juneauempire.com/visit/fishing/breadline.shtml
We launch out of Amalga Harbor north of the breadline to avoid the congestion at Auke Bay. I'm not into fishing much anymore, but its a wonderful area to watch whale & other wildlife or just to get away from land a bit.

Hi Jeff and Julie, It was nice to meet you this weekend. Were you able to catch any fish? We got pretty much skunked on the crab and shrimp. I still have a few shrimp pots I need to haul out tonight yet. Otherwise it was an amazing couple of days on the water. I hope we can see you around again this summer. I will PM you. Thank you everyone for the emails. We really appreciate the info.
Steve (DoraJean), We are excited to be making Juneau our new homeport. It is really nice to get back up to Alaska.
Richard, I have heard about Cross Sound. My dad was a commercial fisherman for years out of Sitka and that was the place he told us to go. We are just a little worried to go out so far by ourselves just yet. Maybe once we get a little time under our belt up here!
Steve (Doc), It was nice meeting yourself and Matt. We didn't do well and quit early to go and watch the whales!
B~C, You never know! We may head out that way one day and we would definitely shoot you an email.
Brian & Helen, Thanks for the welcome! We have seen your boat up here, I recognize the name. I have seen many C-Dory's out at Auke Bay also. I think we are going to try the breadline next time.
I cannot believe how beautiful the weather has been lately! We are so thankful to have been able to move up here.

Jeff and Julie,
It is very good to read your postings! I'm glad the move agrees with you. Hopefully we'll find our way up there and you can show us the sites.
Best of luck fishing and living in Juneau. _________________ -Sarge
