Hello
Just finished mounting a 9.9 Honda on my CC 23. I removed the port swim step and used a
MINI-JACKER by T-H MARINE ($89) It allows you to adjust the height of the motor. I bought the motor on E-Bay and it was listed as a 20" shaft and it turned out to be a 25". I used 1 3/4 spacers made out of brazilian cherry to make sure it cleared the trim tab. I was told to make sure the cavitation plate is at or below the bottom of the boat - mine is about 1" down. Make sure the engine is far enough over to allow the main engine to fully turn.
There is a bracket that can be attached to the swim step - I choose not to because it would be way back there and make docking more challenging. There are also brackets which allow you to raise and lower the motor. I T ed the fuel line into the main line rather than carrying a tank. I'll send some pictures if I can find my memory card.

Here's a way that works well on C-25s and should do well with any (large) kicker, i.e. 10 HP. I assume the 23 is more like a C-25 than the C-22.
This installation is on Bob's Frequent-Sea. Journey On's bracket is on the other side, port, which gives you a choice. Note that the installation is above the waterline, so that the holes through the transme are not underwater.
It's a Garelick bracket, which has a vertical movement of ~10", so that one can raise the motor out of the water when cruising and then lower it if needed. Another advantage is that when the bracket is in the down position it's easier to load those heavy 4-strokes. We do not trailer with the kicker on. Hanging off the back of the bracket on a rough road (try 99 through the San Joaquin Valley,) is not the hot setup.

We have trailered all across the US with a 15 hp Honda electric start on that bracket--and had part of the weight supported by the Garhauer davit--no problems. (over 3,000 miles of trailering that way)--but I would not do it without the davit with that large a motor. _________________ Bob Austin

Bob, If you have some of the weight supported by a GARHUAR lifting hoist (davit) the GARELICK motor mount is a good way to get a motor cross country. The davit stabilizes the motor, as well as off loading some weight. I just prefer to throw the kicker in the back of the truck and put it on when we get there, wherever there is.
I do point out that the davit is the best way to get one of the new 4-stroke motors from a motor bracket on the C-Dory to your dingy:
Garelick has two different brackets, a 2-stroke and a 4-stroke. One is good to 115 lbs and the other to 175 lbs. Take your pick. |
