I am new to fishing and am looking for an inexpensive portable bait tank. Any ideas? I prefer to not have to build one.
Thanks,

If you don't have a battery in the aft port lazarette you can use that as a bait tank. It already has a drain so all you need to do is add a air pump. if you do have a battery there you may want to relocate it. I wall going to turn mine back in to a bait tank for crab and shrimp but I added a custom fish box instead. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Where are some good places to locate batteries on a 22? My new boat does have a battery in each lazarette and nothing else. Seems like a waste of good space.

I have two batteries both in the starboard lazerette. You could move the one from the port side to starboard and then use the starboard lazerette for bait. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

Thanks, are there any weight distribution issues in doing that?

Warren, I think they'll both fit between the gas tanks on the deck. Put them in boxes if you locate them there though..

Tom, have you used the lazarette for live bait? I never have and guessed that the fish would not do well unless it was lined with something that was not toxic to the fish. Also would it work to use a 12v fish tank air pump and then to refresh the water avery so often with the raw water hose? _________________ Capn Steve & 1st Mate Kath

Scott,
I'm sure you remember Roger's on the old Fishtales.
Is this what you had in mind? _________________ Peter & Caryn

Get a portable bucket with an aireator. Not the best, but ok for someone that just wants to use one for short term. _________________ Roger

I have a Kodiak pf-14 (I think) on mine that does a pretty good job for up to about a big half scoop of anchovies. It is plumbed into the same pick up on the stern used for the washdown with a ball shut off. I am thinking about adding a pulse oxygen infuser, so I can shut it down when running.
A lot depends on what you want to put in it. Round or oval and smooth works best as many species get their oxygen by continuous swimming motion into the current and rectangular does not work as well for that. Also sloshing is not very good for them (just as its not so good for some of us). I'm sorry I've had mine a long time and don't really know about comparative prices.
Mine is actually attached to the floor, port rear corner, with 4 ss screws to L brackets. and doesn't take up too much space. Actually not a bad little seat. Can be removed easily without removing the floor screws. There is a picture near the bottom right of page 1 of the album 20 of 25.
