Greetings Fisherfolk,

Do any of you have any experience fishing cobia in the Orange Beach, Gulf shores area and care to share any advice to a brat that will be on that water a lot starting next Oct.
I know only a little about them but enough to be seriously interested.

Thanks much and may your line often be singing in the breeze!!!!

Capt Dan

Check out the Pensacola Fishing Forum. There is a lot of information there. Here is one link

The season is just about peek right now for the sight fishing for them. My son and I caught two 50 pounders last year fishing for grouper from our CD19

Hooking them is easy....putting them in the boat is the hard part. They love to give up and cause you to let down your guard and right about the time you get them in reach of the gaff, they take off again. Good luck and enjoy...

Also, make sure that they are not too green when you boat them. I had one try to take apart the aluminum boat that I was fishing from and the damn thing almost did it, too!

Well not exactly life time. We just eat the last of it last week. We had some on the trip last year. I can't remember if we are it while on Yellowstone or Lake Powell. It is a very dense white meat fish. I like it just about as much as grouper. I would have had another year supply but Marc (Wefings) offered a deal I could not refuse. He cleaned the cobia plus the 5 grouper we had. All in exchange for a "small" bit of the cobia. Smile We did have a boat load of fish that day. The cooler was full of the grouper and the cobia on the deck of the CD19 between the seats. We were about 25 miles off shore and had to head in because we ran out of room. That's the kind of boat problems I like.

Cobia article coming soon to a Wefings newsletter near you ......
I have some friends in Ms. that research them at university level and are pretty interesting folks. If the wind would ever stop blowing here , I might get a chance to seduce one. Roger ,get the boat ready ..................

As long as it's not the same guys that study the Am Red Snapper and the grouper that should be a good read. It looks like Thursday will be the day to go. I think NOAA forgot how to say anything less than seas 5-7 wind SE 15-20
