I've read that it works and that it doesn't. My guess is that you'd need the chain type to allow enough play for the surge actuator to function properly.
If anyone is successfully using a weight distributing hitch with surge brakes can I get a recommendation of models to consider?
Thank you,

Chris,
This type, the Equal-I-Zer, works with surge brakes as the bars slide fore and aft throught the hanging brackets. Apparently the chain type like the EazLift don't work well. We have since changed to electric over hydraulic but the surge brakes did work as they were supposed to with this set up.
Hard to imagine you would need this type of hitch for a 22.

Thank you Roger. I know I probably don't need WD for the 22. But I have an over 6000lb issue with a Bobcat and another trailer.
It is a question of, "since I need one, can I get one that might also provide some margin of comfort and safety for the boat as well?" Now that I have a brand that might work to pursue, a dealer should be able to tell me if it would be a benefit and what I would need.
Thanks, Chris |

I am also using an equalizer brand hitch, and it works fine with surge brakes. You cannot use the sway damper attatchment.
Also there are DIFFERENT SIZE spring bars which have to be co-ordinated for the tongue weight. For example for the c Dory 25 I use 700 lb bars and for the Tom Cat 1000 lb rated bars. _________________ Bob Austin

Chris,
You can buy these direct from the factory and they are very helpful. However, you can get a better deal from a dealer. The factory charges full-bore retail. One feature that meant as much to us as the load distribution was sway control. They really dampen any sway through their design. The factory will send you a video, no charge.
Good luck,
Roger |
