Nominations are now being accepted for what area of the country will win the coveted "Worst Drivers in US" award.
To kick off, I nominate South Florida drivers. I have never encountered more angry, discourteous and/or rude drivers than from approximately Naples south.
Utah drivers are pretty bad, but they are not in the same league!

Tucson, AZ. Polite, courteous, and totally clueless.
On a related note, what is with these people who leave a full car length empty ahead of themselves at a stop light? Left turn lanes that could hold 8 cars can only fit 4 and everyone else has to block a lane of the roadway as they wait to turn left. It can't be to keep from hitting the car in front if rearended, since they do it even when there are 5 or 6 cars behind them. It also means it takes an extra cycle of the stop light to get through since they also wait for a slow count to 4 to start to follow the car in front of them. _________________ Not a C-Dory owner but a lover of the forum and the spirit of adventure found here. I've driven in Austin, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Edmunds, Fargo, Grand Rapids, Houston, Indianapolis, Jackson (MS and FL), Kalamazoo, Lansing, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Orlando, Pennsacola, Quebec, Reno, San Diego, Tucson, Unadilla, Vicksburg, Washington DC , x (nope), Yuma and ...
By far, Boston gets my vote. They have a unique hand signal for out of towners and watch out for those traffic circles.
The best drivers - Hilo - where you have no reason to be in a hurry.
Cheers,

I would probably agree with some of the NE sections. But my experiences are limited to a few trips in this area. As for S. Florida--remember that this time of the year, that many of the people down there are from Northern Climes. _________________ Bob Austin

I've lived and worked in dozens of states and I have to give my number one vote to Boston (sorry Matt) the traffic circles are interesting almost like a carnaval ride. Number two on my list would be Hoboken/Patterson NJ they have traffic circles and in addition a unique little trap called a jug handle. If you wish to turn left you must first turn right into this jug handle which is shaped like a jug handle hence the name. On the good side Boston has the friendliest cops to a lost driver I ever met. Atlanta GA would be number three on my list and defiantely number one for rude drivers. _________________ marvin |

Hands down SEATTLE. Seattle drives are the most courteous incompetent, head up the A$$ drives I have ever meet. They cannot merge AT ALL. They will hold you up at a light until it turns red WAVING at each other to see who can be more polite. Cannot transverse a 4 way stop at all if anyone is turning left. But Total disregard for others when it snows a inch. Mass desertion of their cars in the middle of the road way plugging traffic and stopping snow removal equipment (if they had any). They don’t speed because they are afraid of going over 50. Sunshine confesses the hell out of them and did I mention that they cannot merge??? I have lived in 8 states and hold a class A license. I will take the 100mph highway of southern cal because at those speeds all the bad drives died a long time ago. Only thing worse than a Seattle drive is a Seattle Bike rider! _________________ Thomas J Elliott

I have traveled a bit, lived in the East...and the absolute worst I have encountered are the drivers in Bellingham and Whatcom County north to the Lynden exit (sorry Ruth and Joe, not talking about you!). They invariably want to merge into traffic traveling 60 - 70 on I-5 at 40 mph, which is exacerbated by the incredibly short on-ramps, and they are coming out hell or high water. Officer: "How did this accident happen?" Ole (or Lena): "I was merging and the other driver failed to yield." The other bad place is the roundabout near our home. It's a great roundabout, but it scares the crap out of me when I see Ole (or Lena) stop in the middle of the roundabout with that deer in the headlights look in their eyes...yielding to the cars waiting to enter the roundabout. _________________

Doryman,
I'd like to suggest launching the boat, and parking the truck.
Stress level may decrease significantly.

I live here and I would have to agree it's Boston.
My brother in law once asked "why are people in MA such a**holes" and I immediately replied with "it's the traffic"...ha! The horrible traffic here makes everyone nuts. _________________ Captain Matt
