Well, whoever builds those things will be glad to build another.

Almost lost a spacecraft because a tech didn't notice that the valves were being actuated 60 times per sec., for the whole shift. Thank goodness that was only ~1/3 of their life.

Proves even strict test procedures aren't foolproof.

I wonder what the inside pressure was when it went. The Boeing 707 was overbuilt after the scare caused by the explosive decompression of three of the British Comet jets. That was caused by metal fatigue at the square corners of the windows.

I can tell you from real world experience what happens when the "Chief Officer" on duty (in this case a Major in the USAF) approves of the removal of four jet engines on a C-141 Starlifter aircraft (in hangar for a major isochronical inspection) without having first reviewed the log book (which he would have found did NOT have the correct ballast loaded inside the compartment bay of the aircraft prior to the jacking operation to remove the four engines - which punched a hole about 3 feet deep into the aircraft cockpit when the aircraft bellied rearward then forward and the nose gear raised the cockpit floor - OUCH!) - you get promoted to Lt. Col!!! True Story

Charlie,

Not to be a snippity little piss ant but on your site, it isn't the Intercoastal Waterway - it's the Intracoastal Waterway. Obviously, you know the difference between inter- and intra-.

Just thought you might like to know.

Is that like when you are running up an F4B on a dark night in Chu Lai RVN and the safety strut on the rear canopy falls off about the same time that the air system fully charges and the canopy slams down with the safety strut going through the plexiglass?

Scared the CRAP out of me -- I was in the front seat running the plane. thouhgt a rocket had hit or something.

Of course canopies aren't exactly on the supply shelf so the hangar queen went back to the hangar again for a long time.

IMO, almost anyone who has crashed a military aircraft deserves a promotion if they survived the Martin-Baker ejection!

Most people would put a comma after thankfully. Of course, you know that already....

But, back to the plane, I don't think it looks too bad. I would fly in it if the tickets were cheap enough Laughing .

I didn't mention the coma, or is it comma Rolling Eyes . I'll have to tell my wife about my sense of humor, she says I have no sense at all.... Disgust

I don't think the KC-135 would get off the ground like that, so you're safe!
