I didn't see this type information anywhere on our C-Brats site & thought it informational for those accustomed (or not) to purchasing stainless steel (SS) screws, washers, nuts, (in particular) & additional equipment.

It's always good to share valuable information. I was speaking w/ my youngest brother (who is a General Contractor) over Thanksgiving - discussing the cost of SS fasteners, some tools, etc. Since, most of us know, if it says "Marine" on it, you can expect to pay twice the price. Mr. Green If it says "Boating" and "Marine", heck maybe three times more - since they figure most folks who own boats must surely be rich opulent types. Laughing

So, considering what I normally pay for a bucket of SS screws, washers, nuts, etc I thought I'd share McFeely's with y'all.

Additionally, for anyone not accustomed to knowing what in the world all those numbers mean on screws, and what the differences are in Fastener Materials (e.g. material grades) & Fastener Finishes - McNeely's supplies good explanations which everyone can follow and learn from.

The prices are quite good IMO.

So, here's a good website where many contractors purchase SS Fasteners and materials:

http://www.mcfeelys.com

If you're like me, I generally keep a running two months worth of my favorite catalogs - they make good "Reading Material" - heck, request their catalog - it's a good one.

Norm

Have you compared with Jamestown Distributers? I just checked 1/4 x 20 hex nuts in SS--and Jamestown seemed slightly cheaper--but of course shipping would eat that up quickly--and it depends on how much you need anytime you buy this type of fitting. (25 are cheaper than 5 and 100 are cheaper per unit than 25)

We are fortunate in Pensacola to have several wholesale sellers who seem to be ready to sell to the public. The online are cheaper.

Ha! Good suggestion. I forgot about Jamestown Distr's. I've gone there for "other" items, but never considered them for fasteners. Great site. Thanks Bob.

After trying several websites for nuts and bolts, I stumbled on BoltDepot.com, which has the simplest, most logical hierarchy I've found. Works great through my 56Kb modem

Don't forget about your local Lowes hardware which generally has a good selection of ss fasteners and you don't have to pay shipping if you pick it up locally. Also, one of my favorite places for all kinds of fasteners (and many other things) is McMaster Carr. They stock almost every kind of plumbing fitting, electrical part, tool and fastener a guy could want.

When ever I can I get my S.Steel fasteners at Tacoma Screw. Wink I've found if I need a dozen of something, it's cheaper to buy 100 at Tacoma Screw than 12 at the local marine supplier Thumbs Up CoolSmile Jack
