'Tis the season.
Our daughter is a teacher (4th grade); the majority of kids in her class are low income. Their school has an Angel Tree, where someone can pick a child who might not otherwise receive anything for Christmas, and do something nice for that child. The ages range from infants to teenagers. It is completely anonymous - you will not know the child's name, they will not know who the gifts came from. What you would get from this would be the knowledge that you made a difference for a kid in a disadvantaged situation. Depending on the age, you might spend $30 to $50... you would know the age, size, and gender.
If anyone is interested, drop me a note at the following e-mail address:
eiwiz AT aol DOT com
(remove the spaces and change the word "AT" and "DOT"), and I will put you in touch with our daughter.
Of course, if you have a concern about donating out of your area, I am sure that other schools do something similar; call locally to find out. No pressure, no "follow up"... just the chance to find out that it really is better to give than to receive.
Best wishes,
Jim B. |
