C-dawg, we will see you out there. If your commodore was not intending sleep, how would you fish that morning tide?
I received this advice from a local fishing forum:

Quote:
I would just zig-zag down through Clifton, run back up and do it again. Look for a big Northriver with Radar and two nets in the rocket launchers that says "Sidewinder Cherters" on it and follow his lead. Sidewinder is probably the best guide on the lower Columbia and I guarantee he will be trolling Clifton Channel.
So once the Commodore gets her not-needed beauty rest, I'll be trolling the channel. I'm going to brine some herring tonight with Brine-n-Brite to run plug cut on a 6' leader. The dropper for the weight will be about 12".

If you look at a chart of Clifton Channel, you'll see a trench about 30' deep at the lower end. There's an old cannery there. That is where most people troll, I believe. I think that's our best shot at getting bit. Troll downhill, run back up and do it again.

By the way, there's an article on trolling for Columbia springers in the latest Salmon Trout Steelheader magazine.

Becky and I may run up Saturday to say howdy to the crowd. Tyboo is a very special guy down here, and we have yet to meet his girls. Not a C-Dory guy, but I suppose a Bartender has similar DNA? Roger can verify that, I suppose.

We have canvas now, so you need to look for this:

It appears that we may have some sprinkles - but that's not unusual this time of the year. Glad that we have some coverage for Saturday! Thumbs Up Maybe we can pray that we have one of the last minute clearings that no one predicted and have some sun. Thumbs Up Hot = CoolSmile
Anyhow, looking forward to having a few days of fun on the boat enjoying everyones company!

arrg, I spent most of last weekend cleaning and waxing the boat, thus, the rain....unfortantly the freshly waxed boat is going to have to stay parked at home. The M-in-law is going into to OHSU this morning for a four day visit while they rummage around in her brain....probably should stick around for that. We'll try to make the potluck & I may try to sneek down for a bit after work friday. This will be the first Caheterlamett show we've missed.

Catch lots of fish, have fun

After all my chit chat, planning, shopping and work shifting, my fishing friend crapped out (90% sure) and with short notice I can't fill the #2 seat for launching or Friday fishing. He had a good reason but crap!
So Kathleen and I will show up Friday pre dark and will fish Sat (with the crowds) and then stay through Sun eve.
See you all there.

Capital Sea - Crap. I was hoping you would be able to provide some proof that those mythical springers actually exist. Now I really believe it is all a hoax. Great to hear you will still make it Friday.

B~C - As Capital Sea says, crap. However, I'm thinking your plan to stick around for the M-in-law's hospital stay is a wise one. Otherwise your M might rummage around on the outside of your head. The best to M's M.

bshillam - Rain? Let it. These boats don't leak top or bottom. Just keep the wind down and we'll be great.

Astoria Dave - Please do if you can. I have seen that boat qute a few times on the trailer but I don't recall seeing it afloat. Another Columbia River myth?? Xmas Naughty

C-Dawg - You might be taking this fishing a little too seriously. What if it really is a myth?

Larry Q - Sorry we won't get to C the C'ya, but it is nice of you to drive down to C us. Thanks for that.

We still hope to run up tonight, but will be Friday late morning if we can't.

Capital Sea,

If you want to come down Friday morning I've got room for you in my boat. Or we'll fish in yours and let the Commodore sleep undisturbed.

Give me a call if you'd like; 253-278-5567.

Just a note to say thank you to Cdawg for a most generous offer. I am not sure at this point what I will do, but I am sure this was a kind offer.

We made it just fine. Had a bit of water going past Tongue Point and lots of logs and debris in the river. I smacked a big old log with the hull. We're not sinking so it must not of busted anything.

Three other boats are here. Traveler, C-Dawg and In Cahoots. And the weather is great.

There's a possibility that myself and my coxswain, a C-Dory 22 owner, are going up to Cathlamet this Saturday as part of a Coast Guard Aux. patrol. Not sure if we're going in his CD or my Campion. Regardless, are any of you interested in a vessel exam?

You all have fun and post pics. I was not planning on this trip but wish I could go. This weekend will be spent WORKING on the boat and not using it.

Bad news B~C. One of the guys told me but I had to check it out for myself because I so badly wanted it not to be so. The River Rat Tap is shut down and it looks like it has been since Christmas. It didn't fall in the water yet so mybe you and M can open it back up. The building is for sale. In today's market it can't be worth more than thirty five bucks.
