Well we finally got to somewhere with a decent wireless connection. Great cruise. Thanks Chris for organizing it. And thanks to Tyboo for creating the album. I posted a few more pictures just know. We had a great time and decent weather. For those of us used to cruising the NW, cruising on a SW Lake is different and great. No tides, tons of coves and beaches, fresh water and sunshine! We had a great time and it was certainly worth the left turn at California! To bad we didn't get a chance to cruise with our on line mentors, El and Bill, but the folks we met at Mohave were absolutely great hosts and cruising companions. Thanks for sharing the lake with us Canucks. Chris you kept your record intact by finding those Big Horn just in time on the last morning. Steve, you make one mean tri-tip on that Cobb, and Roy, that lobster was great. We don't have any up our way. Great salad from Susan and Chris makes a mean wild rice dish. Did I mention that this was a spontaneous pot luck. Can you imagine what it would be like if it was planned? C-Brats are great. We were tempted to stay extra time on the lake after everyone heading home but rain and lack of groceries caused us to head off on Monday. Hope everyone had a safe trip home and thanks again for inviting us.
Here's a picture of desert boating.
More pics in the album.
cheers

I just have to add a couple more pictures showing a very clever anchoring technique that Joel on Sea3PO uses. Apparently with great success. He calls this his Mohave set. Used mainly during his lake cruises.
First, use plenty of scope....
The dogs help to pick the good holding ground but are really a bit of overkill and not really neccessary to the success of this technique.
2nd, be sure to set anchor securely....
According to Joel he gets a very good set using this technique and rarely has his anchor drag. However he sometimes has a bit of trouble retrieving the anchor using only the windlass!
Thanks for sharing this technique Joel. I'm sure many other C-Brats will try this anchor set technique with great success.
Cheers

Ron -
So glad you made it over to Mojave - a bit different than cruising up Canada way. Your pictures are great.
We were sure sorry to miss you, but we had to take care of a med problem - all is well now and it is good that we stayed and got it cared for. We should be able to get off and going again soon.
Where to now for you folks? Lake Mead is close by, and as weather warms offers good cruising. Then Powell? Just some ideas of good SW cruising. Bon voyage. _________________ El and Bill (former live-aboards)

Just thought you guys might want to know. I posted on C-Dory sightings, but I just returned from 3 weeks in Baja. Met up with Ron and Ann (Meander) at Puerto Escondido, Baja South. Ron broke out the Cobb and cooked a wonderful roast . They are doing it as they said they would. . when we sat around the camp fire. They have done quite a bit of off shore cruising in the Gulf. It is beautiful down there. Ron and Ann wanted me to post a "hi" to all. |
