If Steve can shake being sick, we'll go over Friday after work, fish Saturday and probably come home Sunday morning. Can't WAIT! Wish the cloud cover would clear so Terrafin could get some clear shots! We won't be without tuna gear this time though Laughing

Hope to see ya over there!

Caty

Hope to see anyone out there!

Caty hope Steve gets to feeling better and you have a chance to do some fishing.

Big news on the halibut season posted today on the ODFW site

Summer season: Open Aug. 3-5. Open weekly Friday through Sunday beginning Aug. 10 and until Oct. 28 or the catch limit is reached.

So halibut is on this weekend also

I expect that we will head towards the chicken ranch or the banana early Saturday and Sunday morning and see if we can find tuna then go for halibut.

Monday will be attempting to catch some salmon

Everyone be safe and have a good weekend

stevej

WOW...doing one last check of the web site here at 3:00 pm Thursday at the house before we head out. Great news on the Halibut!

Know where the Chicken Ranch is but would love to learn where the banana is?

Look forward to seeing you out there.

John

Northwest of stonewall bank maybe 5 miles. It is much smaller than stonewall and is kidney shaped. You will see the contour line running around it.

Saturday the ocean was surprisingly lumpy but I did manage to find my share of salmon. Sunday was the calmest I have seen the ocean in years. Took the Sue C out to stonewall bank and limited on halibut. Thought the salmon on the way in would be a walk in the park. Not so. Couldn't buy a hatchery fish. But it was still a darn nice weekend over there.

Good Job lloyds, sounds like the rockpile was better fishing than the chicken ranch. We spent 6 hours hitting all my spots for a single 27 pounder Saturday and had no luck for tuna west of the ranch. Sunday produced 0 halibut and 1 and a half sable fish for 8 hours of fishing.
How do you get a half of Sable? Have a 8 foot blue shark take a bite 3 feet from the boat.

We had a pretty good view as it it swam around wondering what happened to it's meal. Even made a half hearted attempt for a couple of gulls that were floating next to the boat.

Ocean was like a lake on Sunday this shot is looking West from the rockpile

Think we saw 5 whales one as close as 50 yards, at least 100 blue sharks mostly 3 to 4 feet long, several lone Dahl's, and one small pacific sunfish.

JohnF stopped by Friday afternoon to say Hi, If I remember they found the fishing a little slow also. John how did you Saturday?

Great weekend and did not have to spend hours taking care of fish this time around.

I saw lots of sealife as well. Had a very unnerving experience saturday. If I hadn't seen it up close I never would have believed it. My downrigger went off saturday morning just after getting it in the water. I was out by the whistler in 110 feet of water, fishing at about 30 feet. The pole didn't go off, just the downrigger. Cable tore out of that thing like lightning. When it came to the end of the 150 feet the end rose up out of the depths and a porpoise had it and was taking off across the top of the water with it. The stern of the boat skidded like a car drifts a corner on a dirt road then the barrel swivel on the cannonball snubber parted. Couldn't believe it. Never heard of a porpoise grabbing a cannonball. Had to go back in and go to town to get another cannonball. Sounds like the chinook are starting to show up. They were catching a lot of fish between the lighthouse and depot bay. Might be about time to start fishing behind the south jetty.

Hi Steve...

Thanks for the pics...looked like a nice day on Sunday. Wish I had that for my dad visiting from Montana on Saturday. VERY LUMPY as someone said.

We did catch two tuna between 9 and 10 am so can't complain. Was eating the fish back in Portland around 7 pm. DELICIOUS!!!

Gotta get back to preparing...we leave for Princess Louisa on Thursday night and return home on Tuesday.

Safe boating all,

Crazy John Frazey CoolSmile

Ocean is looking good for the weekend and ODFW has raised the limit to two halibut per person. Going over Friday, fishing the ranch Saturday and Sunday.

Anyone else heading over?

I'm planning on running out of Garibaldi on Sunday. Hope there's still fish being the 3rd day and all. Always wondered how quickly/slowly new ones move into an area? A 2 fish limit and decent weather has me pretty stoked. Good luck to all.
