Now, to the original question...any time! We dislike the crowds of the so-called "prime" season, but as already mentioned, there are places to go to get away from the hordes, and learning to anchor out will immensely enhance your opportunities. Better to go after Labor Day and before Memorial Day for the more popular places like even the state park docks at Sucia, Jones, Stuart and the others, and especially the tourist mecca marinas mentioned. One of our most memorable trips was in February 2004 (link to pix here - but that winter we had clear, cold sunny days instead of the recent endless rain and wind... Crying or Very sad

But the main thing is to GO!

Anyone have good suggestions for launching facilities in the South end of the sound? We're coming up from Oregon and would like to have the truck stored somewhere we feel it's safe. It's going to be there for up to ten days. The wife and I have decided May it is, hoping for good weather!

Oldgrowth got me turned onto the Olympia marina. Great place, and seems to have very secure parking for periods like you mentioned. Right off of I-5.
