Well it’s certainly been a while.
We are now just outside Cleveland Oh on Lake Erie.
Most of the trip along the beautiful Erie canal has strict speed limits so after changing all the fuel lines the port tank issue never came up again.
Now on the lake when we do short fast jumps (30-40 miles) it occurred again so I know it wasn’t just the fuel lines. (I told the service manager at harbor marine who did the 500hr service about the issue and my replacing all the lines and he also concurred that probably has been the issue (those hoses were dated 1997)
Yesterday I took the port tank pickup off.
I see no check / anti-syphon valve and everything looks clear all the way through. The flexible hose has a metal mesh filter insert at the end at a 90 degree angle from the hose (the hose is just cut and the filter is inserted).
I noticed that as I unscrew the unit from the tank and the pickup hose spins in the tank it occasionally contacts the bottom. Could that be the source of the issue?
I took the unit to the parts guy here at the great south shore yacht supply in the Chagrin river and he said he’s never seen a pre-filter on a pickup and to just take the filter off and cut the tube at an angle and let the racor do the filtering. I’m reluctant to do that but I am inclined to cut off about 1/4in from the top of the hose and re-insert it into the burr to eliminate the possibility that as the hose moves around in there with the sloshing of the fuel it can’t find itself sitting on the bottom and constricting the fuel.
Also I feel like the hose is a little looser than it could be on the burr and if it was originally cut a little long at the factory AND it slips down on the burr a tad then it could certainly contact the bottom of the tank and restrict flow at higher RPM / suction.

The overheat alarm I had mentioned way back on this topic thread has never reoccurred and I had the thermostat checked during that 500hr. Service.

I guess I’m looking for opinions and / or experiences with the pickup system on this 2000 boat - thank you
