Hi Jim and Joan,
Marcia and I sold Spirit, our Jeanneau Tonic about a year and a half ago, shortly before wew ordered Valkyrie, our CD22. The decision was especially hard for me because I singlehanded Spirit from Lake Erie to the Bahamas and Keys and back and owned Spirit for nearly 20 years.
I know what you are going through, but if you can still have one sailboat, you have the best of both worlds.
A number of months ago I posted a question about CD owners who started in sail and I was amazed at the number of those who did.
You should find the transition an easy one based on your experience, but I'm still wondering what it will be like to handle those 6 + footers on l
Lake Erie looming in from the aft quarters!

Well, went to the boat show yesterday with my youngest (13) Had a great day other than the crowds. Went again today with a couple of buddies. WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! DO NOT!!!!!!! go to the boat show with your buddies. Planned on shopping for a few goodies and a new Yamaha for the 18. Looking at the new 22 and the killer prices they are offering. EVIL! EVIL! C-Dory factory people to tempt a poor guy like me. Soooo Short story is that the keeper of the purse strings is coming up to the show with me weds nite and depending on what kind of a trade in deal I can work on the 18 I may be ordering a new 22 as the new Divine Miss C. I probably should have just stayed home. But Nooooo I had to go up and look at the boats. Does anyone have the number for C-Dorys anonimous. My name is Norm and I have a problem. Thank goodness I can't afford the new Tom Cat or I'd really be looking into the bottomless pit of debt. Man is that the sweetest boat I've ever seen for my uses. Someday!!!!! Later, Looking forward to meeting a bunch of you friday and sat.

I understand Norm's affliction. We signed the papers last night... so, the good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, we'll be coming back to this beautiful area when it's MUCH warmer to pick up a blue 25... and spend some time shaking her down locally. When I mentioned to Jeff that we're going to lose all our sailing friends, he replied, "You'll make lots more new friends." And, he's right; we already have. Wish we could stick around the rest of the week to meet all of you at the gathering; but family duty calls.
We are excited to begin this next chapter. Thanks all for your support; a very special thanks to Tom and Susan for taking the time to show us what this is all about. This great owners' group played a very big part in our decision process... we are appreciative.
Best wishes,
Jim & Joan (aka James TX/SD... but my friends call me "Jim" )
Working on a name and going home to sell a sailboat.
And maybe figure out a different tow vehicle.

I'd appreciate a better description of the table modifications in the updated 22' cruiser. I'm slowly gearing up to make some myself and a little more information might be of value. Do the modifications have to do with a forward facing seat (which we don't have)?

Norm, Congrats on the 22 if you decide to go that way! Those new 22's are sweet, they have alot of really cool features as I'm sure you saw. I noticed a huge difference in size compared to the 20 I have now( not a Cdory) and I'm sure your wife will too . That extra space really makes a difference in the comfort factor. Good luck!
Jim and Joan, When I saw you guys at the show, I knew you'd end up being part of the Cdory family. 25 huh, congrats those are great boats. Tom took me out for my first CDory ride too. He's a great guy who loves his dory! Now the hard part comes, waiting for your new boat.
Moose, The table upgrade has a few changes first of all, it has a knob with a screw attached that goees through the foot of the table. It no longer uses the slide in jobs on the side of the hull, but has a bolt I believe, and the back rest is a seperate molded fiberglass piece now. I will try to take some detailed pics soon. But the table is rock solid, and easy to change between, forward/rear facing and the bunk. Kinda hard to explain without pics though.

Jim and Joan --
Congrats on your decision. When do you roughly figure on picking up your new boat? And how long do you plan to do your cruising in the Pacific NW? Sorry you'll be gone from the Seattle Show before we arrive Thursday ... perhaps instead of meeting back in the Midwest, we'll have a chance to cross wakes in the San Juans?? Welcome to the clan!!! Jim, good going on the 25fter. Thats a really nice boat and when the minister of finance gives us the ok we will be stepping up to that or a cat.
When you get ready to crusie the northwest give us a call or if you have any questions while planing fell free to call. Some of the guide books make a great place sound only fair and a fair place sound great. Nice to talk to folks that have been there. its a good thing we went out sunday , monday was thick fog in the north end. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Jim and Joan,
Happy to hear of your decision about the C-Dory purchase. We're looking forward to seeing you again when you come back to this beautiful part of the USA. Maybe, just maybe??, we'll have some gorgeous sunny NW weather by that time.

Let us add our congrats to the chorus here! The C-Dorys are all awesome boats! Be sure to let everyone know when you are planning on cruising our Northwest waters, maybe it will become a mini-CBGT! Patty and I want to put in a word for Canvas Riggers if you are planning on getting a camperback - they are simply fantasic. Anyway, now the fun begins - planning all the boat jewelry and modifications!

We are back home in south Texas... exhausted and satisified. The red-eye out of Seattle around mid-night last night wasn't as bad as some we've experienced. Maybe the new boat on our minds made it easier?
We are very excited about our new addition, but it will work best with our schedule to come back to the area mid to late summer to pick her up. Not an easy decision to ask Jeff if we can schedule later rather than sooner (and I'm sure goes against normal boat-buying logic). We will definitely post a time frame as it gets closer and would truly enjoy getting together with y'all.
We are sitting on the deck right now (overlooks the dock), it's just after 6:00 pm, the sun has set, but it's still light; 70º, shorts and t-shirts. Glancing at the dock, Joan just said, "That 25 is going to look great right there." "Yeah," I said, "and even better out running." Sigh.
Best wishes,
Jim & Joan (aka James TX/SD) |
