I've got the Dodge Dakota 2 wheel drive. Tows great, but I do have to watch it on ramps. (90% sling launch) Liberty sounds good. Gladiator sounds GREAT! What do you diesel guys get for mileage?

My 1-ton which weighs a little over 7000# and has 4:10 gears, gets 18 mpg empty and 11.5 mpg towing the TyBoo at 7500# on the trailer and loaded.

The Jeep GC we had would tow the CD22 just fine, and did so for few thousand miles. The Jeep also towed the CD25 for a few hundred miles, and while it handled amazingly well, it was not safe enough for the emergency situations we so fortunately avoided with it. If we still had the 22, we would still have the Jeep.

That new Jeep truck sure looks cool.

If we get the Liberty it won't be used to tow anything heavier than my 14' Columbian. I bought the F250 Diesel for my main towing rig. It gets averages 17mpg empty and 12 pulling the 27' CD.

Since we will purchase a used Liberty it will likely be a 6cyl gas.

My 2500 Duramax clocks in around 7000 lbs with 3:41 gears gets 17 empty and 13 towing Shearwater (7500 lbs fully loaded)

My original tow vehicle was a 1500 two door Tahoe with 6.5 diesel. Did a good job but I had beefed it up a bit.

Finally got a couple hundred miles towing the Jenny B with my 2500 Duramax/Allison and I get about the same as Stevej. 14 mpg towing the lighter C-22.

Grade? What grade?

Gary:

I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine (I've had over 20 Jeeps). I liken it to what they say about a Jack Russel Terrier: "A big dog in a little dog body . . ." It is amazing all that little truck will do. If they come out with that Gladiator, there's another Jeep in my future though. If you're a Jeep person, send me your address through the forum and I'll send you a DVD of a Jeep (Wrangler in this case) adventure (1 hour).

Well I wish I had never sold my 61 Willys PU. That was such an awsome little truck. It had a Chev 307 mated up to the stock 4 speed and twinstick transfer case. Then it had a over/under on it besides. You could put it in gear in low range and get out and walk next to it while it idled up a hill. Simply amazing. Of course its top speed was a whopping 72 mph! But the 5 mpg was a killer and it had major rust problems. So I traded it in to get my Harley.

Later I got a Wrangler Renegade that was just so so. The GC was actually an increadable car. The 318 had so much power it was amazing. It was like driving a big muscle car and it was all stock. This one was definitely not built on a friday! And even with the awsome power we still avereaged over 14mpg in combined driving. It would get 20 on long hauls fully loaded and pulling my little 14' Columbian up to the Kamloops area in Canada. My wife really loved that car, but she wore it out so it was time to replace it.

Know the feeling. Some of the old MB's and 2A's I bought (2-$300) are now in the stratosphere in price. At one time I had 4 running and 6 for parts.

The gas Liberty won't have that kind of power although the diesel probably would (low end torque). It's still an amazing little truck in it's own way though.

That Gladiator is one sweet lookin' rig! I love it! Very classic look. One thing I'm wondering about tow rigs is that we have a '95 GMC Jimmy with V-6 and towing pkg...but our current boat is a lot lighter that our CD will be. Hope it will tow a CD22 or we'll have to put off the CD and get the bigger truck first. That would hurt...the wait for the CD is killing me as it is.

You'll probably be like I and the rest of the folks with V6's are: fine, as long as you're not in a hurry (why be in a hurry with a CD).

I tow my 22 with a l993 Dodge Dakota with the 4.7 V8. It tows very nicely. The truck's 4-wheel drive takes care of any difficult retrievals.

My son towed a 6500 boat with his 4.3 V6. It was in the small GMC Van and had the factory tow package and the 4:10 rear.
I had the same van in the work version with the 3:78 gears towing a little over 5000 and it was just a little weak.

Most rigs can tow most anything --- BUT --- can your little jeep, car, or truck get that towed rig to stop in less than a mile.

good luck and be safe
