If your Kimber doesn't have a Pachmayr Decellerator pad on it, then get one....makes a huge difference. I have them on all the big stuff. Even made my .500 Nitro comfortable to shoot, if you can believe that. I've heard the Simms pads are very good, too, but have yet to shoot a gun with one on it.

Sweet geezus, Wineman! What a rifle. A 50-110? Wow. The 1886 is a great gun. Sounds like your father had an eye for quality. _________________ "Life's too short to hunt with an ugly gun"

Quote: | my favorites are a SW Model 66 on .357 magnum | The 19/66 is one of the nicest revolvers out there. I've got one of each. Perhaps the only revolver I like better is my S&W Model 625 in 45 ACP. It uses moon clips and combined with the short, stubby 45 ACP cartridge, I find it faster to reload. I've got several other S&W revolvers and a Ruger revolver. I did trigger/spring jobs on all 3 of my J-frames. Not a big fan of Ruger revolvers unless I've got a nail to pound and no hammer...
Several .22 semi-autos that I use for teaching. 3 Kahrs -- nice little guns. I've got a couple Sig P239s, but they just don't balance well for me. I've got a couple USP not-so-compacts. Not that well balanced and triggers are poo. A Colt Govt. Model in .380 (my wife's gun) is a sweet little thing. A ParaOrdnance P14-45 which is a boat anchor and a piece of poo. A Springfield 1911 that all I'm going to keep is the frame.
Of my various rifles, the standouts are a couple AR15s, an AR10, an M1A, and a couple M1 Garands. The AR15s are very nice to shoot, as are the M1A and M1 Garands. There is something special about holding an M1 Garand made around 1942 -- I wonder who carried it and where he served.
Work is really getting in the way of my giving proper attention to all my toys. |

Quote: | If it knocks you down when you shoot it, you either need to gain some weight or get a smaller gun | I've got the gaining weight part down pat. But actually I think I need a larger, heavier gun. If the thing weighed 9 lbs, it wouldn't recoil much. But then I'd have a harder time dragging my sorry behind up the hills when I go stumbling around the woods wondering where all the deer went (answer: my backyard, the b*stards). |

On the recoil subject:
Back in the spring I bought a 340 Weatherby and was worried about the recoil before the gun even got here. I built a recoil reducer/adjustable shooting rest for range work. Mine is made out of an old Subaru scissors jack and some angle iron, but Caldwell makes a much nicer model called the Lead Sled. It still bark's pretty loud, especially with the break on , but it no longer bites. In the field it never seems to bark or bite, but I think that has to do with adrenaline not mass.
Call me a chicken, but my shoulder likes it that way!

I don't have much in the way of purdy guns anymore since I subscribed to this service for all my serious needs.

The service....now that was funny! What a riot!
Wade you can download that 340 so it's a pussycat. Also, shooting from a standing position takes a lot of the bite out of the big ones...

I thought that was illegal, or maybe only in California...
Certainly not in D.C. _________________ CHARLIE and PENNY CBRAT #100
