Wild Blue: Thanks for the update man. Be sure and aske Chris on the Green Frog if he has any dirty blue fenders on his boat. A bit of humor left over from his 1st lock thru on the Cumberland River cruise a couple years back. Wish I was out there with yall. Will for sure make that water some day...and truly looking forward to the promised pictures soon.

Jim (et al), appreciate the daily updates on Powell, we're looking forward to getting up that way one of these years if I can ever get 1 or both of the kids out of school...
Glad to hear you have the "real-deal" Dixie with you folks with that response on borrowing some coffee, you never know, could have been an imposter.
Whoever gets this, say hi to the gang, see you in Frisco in 9-10 days! _________________ Steve & Carmen

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to keep you up to date. We have a cell signal out of hole in the rock and we're on our way to Cathedral of the Desert. Last night we had 7 C-Dorys in Oak canyon--what a great group of people. Chris (Rana Verde) is doing a great job as tour guide, but we really miss you Bill and El. We are glad you are well and will be here next time. This is Lori Ann's first trip for any boating in their TomCat so it is fun to help and properly indoctinate them to the C-Brat way of doing things. The scenery is spectacular--as usual and the weather is now warm, sunny, and only light breezes. We'll keep you posted on next cell service. _________________

Here’s another update from Lake Powell. We are having such a good time. We climbed to the Defiance House Ruins this morning. The trail had been washed out by the flooding last fall and it took us a while to make our way there, but it was well worth the effort. Warren and Lori (Lori Ann) stayed and tended the boats while we were gone. When we returned, we pulled up camp and headed back down the lake to Hall’s Crossing. Those that hadn’t taken on fuel on the way up fueled on the way down ($4.27 per gallon). We got ice cream at the store and sat in the shade of the marina veranda to enjoy the treat. The weather is gorgeous—maybe even hot! Tonight we will stay back near Oak Canyon and cook dinner together. Two nights ago we had community fish dinner with all the fish anyone could want—thanks to Brent. Everyone else chipped in with other food and we really had a feast. We’re hoping to meet up with Steve (Gizmo) tonight—he wanted a couple of days of peace and quiet without us. We are such a rowdy bunch—especially Joan and I. John (Clara) left us to go pick up his wife and he should be joining us again by tomorrow. Warren and Lori have really done well—gained a lot of skill and confidence. Jim and Joan (Wild Blue) have loved the trip and Jim keeps forgetting that he’s retired from being a photographer and is snapping photos like mad—I’m sure he’ll be posting those as soon as he gets a good internet connection. Chris is still being a terrific tour guide and keeps us informed about the rock formations and other geology. Besides that he is a fabulous cook and an all around great guy! Jim (Genesis, but thinking about changing to Austin City Limits) is so helpful to everyone. We’ve all enjoyed getting to know him—even though he talks Texan.
The scenery is spectacular, and you couldn’t ask for nicer traveling buddies. For those that haven’t done this trip put it on your calendar for next year. The boats have drawn a lot of attention and interest here—they are perfect for cruising these waters. We’re back to Hole in the Rock so it’s time to post. Until next time …. |

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date and for the excellent picture -- took a little climbing to get that shot! But, ask Chris where are his gift frisbees for the mouse? -- couldn't see them in the picture. So glad that weather is treating you folks so well -- we're sure with you in spirit. |

Thank you people for the reports. This is the second year I have read about the Lake Powell travels. Don’t think I can take another year of it without being there.
Next year I hope I am the one reporting on the Lake Powell adventures.

Thanks for that pic; made me really want to be there (should I say "drool"?)!!!!
Interesting to note the two styles of beaching/anchoring also.
You mentioned fish dinners...what are you catching and may I ask your bait/technique in regards to the fishing?
You oughta leave a buried treasure and mark it with lat/long for us working folks who will be following your foot steps this summer. May be a fun tradition to begin.

The Lake Powell gathering is over. We returned to Wahweap Friday about noon, and got everyone back on the trailers. Chris (Rana Verde) was anxious to get on his way, 11 hrs back to San diego. The rest of us, Clara, Wild Blue, Lori Ann, and Discovery, had lunch at the lodge before heading north. Wild Blue and Lori Ann convoyed with us to Richfield, UT and overnighted in the driveway. Lori Ann will continue back toward Anacortes today. Wild Blue and Discovery will reprovision and clean off the red sand, before heading out to Rio Vista, and the San Francisco/Delta gathering.
We had a terrific time at Lake Powell, great scenery and special people to share it with. We met many new friends on this trip. We have a lot of pics to share, when time allows. |
