Tom,
That's an interesting modification to the kayak. The speed is actually 24.8 KPH instead of MPH. (Still fast, but can't catch a C-Dory... Laughing )

Hate to bust your bubble Roger but you have to multiply KPH x 0.621 to get MPH. Do that math and you only get 17.4 MPH which ANY respectable C-Dory can whomp!! Still a lot faster than any Kayak I've ever been in or around!!

C'mon, you guys!! Tom's fixin' to break his damn fool neck, and you're bickering about arithmetic (which, by the way, you both got wrong)???

Don't do it, Tom. The whales can still catch it, and they ain't too happy with you right now.

According to this site

http://www.sciencemadesimple.net/speed.php

24.8 kph is equal to 15.41 mph or 13.39 knots

all I know is that when trolling a plug cut six pack you don't want much of a roll

I think that thing would be WAY slower than a regular kayak...they don't show the way it would normally be operated by the majority of Brats (like me)....fat old man, upside down

Well dang-- I was thinking KNOTS per hour, not KILOMETERS per hour. Embarassed Ya'll up north may be tuned in to all that metric $!#* , but this redneck still goes by the ol' standard of measuring.

I can't imagine rowing that in a chop! You would have a heck of a time getting up on the foils. Pretty facinating idea though! I wonder if that is the fastest single person human powered boat on the water? It would have to be pretty close!

I'm pretty sure it's not the fastest but I just spent about 30 minutes on the web using google, etc and couldn't find the record. I thought I was pretty good but it's just not there. Can any one find it? I'm sure there are lots of categories, found lots of stuff about ocean crossings etc but nothing about short sprints....

I did a quick search google - search term =

fastest "human powered" boat

Got back several links. See
http://lancet.mit.edu/decavitator/

- this one claims to hold the record at 18.5knots - set the record in late 1991. Could be other stuff later but I didn't look too deep. For the math wizards - that's 21.3 miles per hour or 29.8kilometers/hour....

Pretty sedate stuff so far----so-----try this!!!

http://www.paritetboat.com/ellips.shtml

Saw it at the Sacramento Boat Show and on TV coverage of a Giants game where one was out in McCovey Cove looking like a lost spaceship just in and waiting for the new Star Wars film.

Also check out the Looker 17 and the Looker 25/30 glass bottomed boats.

Now we know what some of the Russian aerospace engineers are doing for new careers these days!

So whatta' ya' think Patrick (Byrdman) ? Can't wait for the new Tom Cat 25? Sign right here on this little dotted line..........................................

Joe.

The Mokai is pretty neat. I just wish they would provide an electric version. If they were to slap a Golf cart motor in it with a couple batteries I bet the weight would be about the same. But what a difference the electric would make!
