Hi All,

I know this has been discussed before, but I can't find the thread. I often see a stainless protective bar across the motor well opening into the cockpit in a number of your photos. Some have had them custom made. I wonder if there is a ready source for a pre-fabricated bar that fits a 22' C-Dory and can be bolted to the well sides. Does anybody have a lead?

Thanks

Dun (CTYankee)

A transom rail is available from the C-Dory factory.

Don,
Here's a link to a picture in my photo album that shows the transom rail mounted on my boat. This is the one available from the factory.

So anyone know anything about this custom job?

Found it in the photo's. I appears it belongs to someone named liberty call. I can't find them in the user database though.

There's your chance, FB. Liberty Call will be at Sequim Bay weekend after next. Come on up and talk with the gentleman!

He is listed as Doug / Liberty Call on the Member List.

That is for sure a neat looking setup. I am betting he made it himself with off the shelf parts from a marine store. Not cheap parts, but readily available. Those 60º fittings on the ends and the railing can be purchased individually. Doug did a really nice job installing it.

He has another picture with that tray covered in crabs and beer for his friends, and yet another shot of it supporting a grill with some cooking going on. I bet he is real popular at the gatherings. I missed everything so far this year, so I am looking forward to meeting the guy. I may have met him at the SBS, but, well, Pat brought beer so I can't be sure.

I think I may have incorrectly posted a response, so I'll try it again. You may want to take a look at the stern transom storage box I made for MacNaughty. I don't know the way to provide a link but it is on page 14 of the albums, pictures 1 and 2 and more on page 5 of the album. It is made of starboard and simply screwed together. You can't fall out the stern and you gain lots of useable storage space.

Cheer! Craig on MacNaughty III

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like a slick system. Where did you buy the starboard? Is it inexpensive?

This is reviving an old thread, but I am trying to make my own transom rail similar to that of Liberty Call. I discovered that the gunwale/transom slope is not quite 60 degrees and I think I can see shims in the photos that Doug posted.
Can anyone suggest how I can make shims to allow me to mount a stainless bar across the transom motor well area?
I see that Doug sold his C-Dory and may no longer be around on the forums...
Any suggestions much appreciated

Playin Hookey / Natural C-lection,

The SS rack that you see on the Liberty Call is now part of the Comfy Dory. I purchased it a few years ago from the gentleman (Mike as I remember) who purhchased the Liberty Call. He disassembled it a shipped it to me in FL. The rack is made from stock parts available from West Marine. You're right, the angle is not quite correct, so it will require some round shims to mount it tight to the boat. The nylon shims appear to be about 1/4" to 3/8" on the thick side and about 1/8" on the thin side. Fastened with thru bolts, washers and Nyloc nuts. It is very stable, particulary with the vertical post in the middle. I also made a fish / cocktail / Coleman stove table based on the design that you see in the picture. Used Starboard and made it 36" wide. It is attached to the bars with Velcro straps screwed to the underside of the table and wrapped around the bars. It is very stable also, particularly if you use the Velcro straps that have a buckle. I would be glad to measure the various pipe lengths and take more close up pictures if anyone is interested. I think there are some pictures of it in our album.

Thanks Tad, that would be great if you could post some measurements and ideally take some photos.

The factory bar was probably made by Railmakers NW in Everett. They should still have the pattern, in case the factory doesn't have or is slow to respond.

Mark Tanner made a lot of stuff for C Dory as well .
Website here

Bolton Stainless in B.C. as well
Website here
They just sent us a Ranger Tug Part overnight . Good service .

You can build it with standard stainless bimini parts but it wont be totally solid for loads if you use fastpins for easy removal.
BTW I am in contact with Triton on a regular basis . Things are going well .

The tray in question may be a standard manufactured item by Magma which doubles as a BBQ table and bait cutting table. (Note metal tag in rear center panel.)

If you don't catch any fish, BBQ the bait and you have dinner!

(KISS Principle wins again!) Laughing

The table comes in various forms. One example:
