No luck thus far. I'll try to contact Raymarine tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions. _________________ Patti and Barry

Is this thread only for C series because I have E80 radar on our new to use 25 that will not rotate? When I took it out on its sea trial a couple of weeks ago it just stopped working, strange. The boat/motor only has about 200 hours on it, a 07, so just thinking bad connection somewhere. The previous owner agreed to pay for fix but thinking it could be something simple. Have not had much time to play with the display unit, the Ray Marine manual is not that user friendly---miss my Garmin. _________________ Jay

Are you sure it's not "rotating"? The E80 is the display, not the radar. Do you have the 2kw or the 4kw dome? It's hard to hear it rotate with the engine running. See if you can hear it when it's quiet.

Sorry, it's an E80 multifunction display what 2kw radar. After initial warm up I get a popup window that says the radar is not rotating. maybe I should call the RayMarine teck support while I'm sitting in front of the display. Could be something simple.

Jay,
It's not hard to pop the top off the radome to do a visual inspection. Be sure everything is powered down.On the radars I have inspected and repaired, it has come down to a loose connector. The antenna array in most smaller radars is light weight and can be rotated with a finger. I know in some radar manuals it tells you to rotate the radar antenna to be sure it is not binding anywhere as an inspection and troubleshooting step.
In addition, there is a sensor that detects both rotation and gives a reference to the bow on the boat. If that sensor fails then the antenna will rotate but the sensor will not detect it. If it doesn't detect rotation it will not turn on the transmitter and shut itself down. So if you do the audio test and hear it start up and quit, then that's a good indicator. _________________ Tom

Jay,
Give Jordan Morse a call at Polar Wire / Marine. He is a local Raymarine rep. He was very helpful getting to know my "new to me" Raymarine system. I picked his brain for hours before I was comfortable with the system.

This thread is not for any particular Raymarine. I started it some years ago because I was so frustrated with the crappy owner's manuals and figured the accumulated knowledge of this site would be much better. Thanks to all who proved that hope right. |

when I get a chance I'll pop the top and ckeck connections. Fire it off and see if there is rotation. The previous owner said he would pay for repair but would like to fix the problem myself. Better to know the system anyways.
hard to respond here with smart ass phone. |

been trying to get ahold of this guy but it seems extremely busy, If can't figure it out myself it will probably be an off season repair. |

At the old computer now, smart ass phone just doesn’t cut it when it comes to posting on the forum.
Pulled the lid on the radome, everything looks pristine inside and the antenna turns easy. No visible connectors to check, everything is sealed.
Left the lid off and turned on the unit, looked up top and the antenna was turning.
On system screen: Scanner warming up, countdown from 75
At about 50 on the countdown screen changes to: Scanner stand by-Antenna not rotating.
I look up top and the antenna is still rotating, after about a minute it stops.
Never get the option to tap power button and change Radar button to TX.
This system has extremely low hours..
Maybe the sensor that Tom cited. |

Jay,
I don't know if the E80 is the same as the C80, but once the magnetron warms up, you have to briefly touch the power button, then on the lower left a menu option shows up to turn on the transmitter. It sounds like it works correctly. |

The magnetron goes to standby at about the 50sec's into the warm-up countdown, then I get Standby/Antenna not turning. The radar button lower left with TX STDBY options will not toggle on with power button. I tried during the warm up countdown and after it went to standby/Antenna not turning. The annoying Screen brightness adjustment window pops up every time I tap the power button; wish I could turn that option off. |

I tend to agree with Tom on this one. I have had the same problem a long while ago and traced it to the very wimpy connector whose location I cannot recall but if you follow the wires into the radome you will find it.
My radome did the same thing, started OK then went into standby mode after a minute or so.
Its a PITA.

Quote: | Disabled radar overlay feature for MFDs which have not been interfaced to a heading data source (ex. autopilot, Smart Heading System, ST60 Compass, etc.). Previous C-Series Classic MFD software releases permitted radar overlay when interfaced to a COG (vessel had to have a SOG of at least 2 kts) or heading data source.

thanks charlie for the link. Barry was nice enough to let me down load his update at the gathering and now I dont have radar over lay either. I dont have a fluxgate compass on the boat. Not sure how to reset to the previous set up? We have radar but no over lay. now I will have to figure this out. thanks barry.... _________________ Thomas J Elliott
