Hi, Catalina Bound C-Brats
We are still in British Columbia, have logged close to 500 miles and still north bound. As you can guess we will be unable to give up a trip of a lifetime to get to the Catalina get together--which is also a trip of a lifetime. Distance prohibits us from getting there. We'll miss seeing all of you and will look forward to the next opportunity to boat together again.
Best wishes--have a great time in the sun! If anyone drinks cheap wine--give a toast to us!

B & D-
How about if we drink cheap beer?
Will miss seeing you two.
Hope you can make the Santa Barbara cruise in October. Found a shoal I want to dive up near Santa Rosa/San Miguel Islands.
Have fun up north. _________________ Roger

FYI
I had to stop at Avalon last Saturday to refuel. Be advised that gas at Catailina was $4.70/gal. I purchased about 19 gal. for $90.00 and change.
So be prepaired. |

What with the warm water push coming up from the south, me thinks it would be good to head out between Catalina and San Clemente and fish the kelp pads and the breaks for palagics (yellowtail, dorado, tuna).
The only thing is, I don't know how many would be equiped for that type of fishing vs going to Santa Barbara Island and soaking bait. |

Roger, I think I have the gear for it, but not sure if I have the latest "hi tech" lures for any of them. I have a couple of Rapala's that's about it. Guess we could catch our own live bait night before in the harbor...
Hey, I looked at your rigs you use for the fin bait, the smallest hook size they had on their web site was #10 I believe. Wouldn't a #12 or 14 be a better choice for chovies and sardies? _________________ Steve & Carmen

Hi Mike,
Karen and I are planning on being at MDR Sat. or Sun. That is unless something goes wrong at work or with my bod .
I ususally tow with near empty gas tanks. Any suggestion on where to get gas for the boat? Currently we can by gas at about $3/gal - don't know what it is down south.

There is an album ready to go for this one. It is at the top of the Cruises and Events album. Please try to get a palm tree picture or two in there for me! _________________ TyBoo Mike

Steve,
There is a gas station on your way into the marina, at MDR.
It will be on your right side, next to a McDonald's. If I remember it is one block before you get into the Marina.
It may be a mobile station. Gas is over $3.00 here in So Cal. I think $3.15. |

Hey Mike, you pre-cooked the baked potatoes last year or year before, came out great after warming on the BBQ. What did you do? I'd like to try the same thing. Thanks. |

Ron,
I haven't heard from Roger, but I'd guess he'll cruise with us. I'm thinking of taking my two 5 gal jerry cans if they will fit between my fuel tanks. I've been so busy with Coast Guard stuff, I've hardly had a chance to think about this trip, and this week is no exception. Got a patrol on Tuesday, a class that night, then another class on Saturday. So I'll have to fit all the trip preparations in between. Really looking forward to some hardcore R&R. This is my birthday present to myself....8/24 is my birthday. Don't ask how old!!
Steve, I think what I did to the potatoes was precook them in the microwave, but I really don't remember specifically that time. But if I was doing it again, that's what I'd do. |

It just is not gonna work out for us this year....Sue is starting school that week and I don't even know if I will be home by then... maybe a couple of weeks later... We are still up-north and enjoying the summer...I bought a Kubelwagen and have been working on it....what I really need is a German Helmet so I can look like Colonel Klink.... it's been sitting under a tree for 31 years....but I got er running and actually drove it around the block...nothing else works....not even the brakes...
I have been working as a volunteer at Lassen Park...doing a archeological survey of known indian sites...lots of hiking (mostly lost)
We sure will think of youall and wish we could join ya

Mike,
I spoke with Roger today. He said he may very well go direct to Catalina from CIH. What do you say Roger? |
