Jim is right. A tire gator, or road gator, is a truck tire tread laying in the roadway. I learned the term in Utah. Its a trucker term I think.

I actually had to borrow the acetylene torch to do the repair. Not that much room on the TomCat.

They are predicting 70 degrees for Rockport for the rest of the week. Tomorrow we will buy another out of state fishing license. Then I will be legal to fish in three states. It gets expensive, but it's my favorite recreation, after boating.

Brent

For the time being, Discovery is parked on land. The kurbit crew pulled in yesterday and will stay to celebrate Christmas.

The weather here is great--foggy but warm in the mornings and blue skies by the afternoon. Since the water is so skinny, and fishing is the major activity these days, we brought a jon boat for flats fishing. Brent and Mark (my brother-in-law) got "Duck Dory" ready for launch.

They readied the gear and down to launch they went.

The terrain was a little rocky, but Brent knew this would work?!

Ok, so maybe it didn't work exactly as planned but "Never give up"

There were actually bystanders making bets about if they would get it floating before one of them had a heart attack or at least, fell in the drink. Finally success--they were off to the fishing grounds.

It was a great day of fishing and "Duck Dory" lived up to her expectations--however, today we find her in her own slip, minus the wheels. It was money well spent to prevent a heart attack.

The cost is $40/month and it's within 100 feet of our short bus. What a deal!
Life it good!

Merry Christmas everyone.

Term comes from something that will lay there, looking unobtrusive, that will jump up and get you when you are not looking. And it is short for Ally gator, for the reptilian similarities.

From the old and worn out encyclopedia of CB terms that don't come up much anymore.

By the way, we do enjoy the pictures. We were just sitting here telling Deena's folks about the difference between the TC-255 and the CD22 an low and behold, there is your side by side pix. Terrific.

Merry Christmas

Hi Brent and Dixie,

They have these new-fangled things called "boat ramps"... it's a place where you can back the boat into the water. While most people do this with the boat on a trailer, it would work with the boat with wheels, as well. Just trying to be helpful. Wink

Merry Christmas,
Jim

Jim,

The boat arrived from Utah on top of a 5th wheel trailer. Thus no boat trailer. Its a 16' jon boat and doesn't fit in the truck with a 5th wheel hitch. Plus its only 150' from the boat parking area to the water. The problem was the last 30' from the road to the water. The boat slip was available, and only $1.67/day, on the monthly rate. We signed up for two months.

I will get some fishing photos posted.

You don't need no stinkin' boat trailer! You got wheels - tie the bow of the boat up tight to the bumper of the truck and haul it to the ramp. Mr. Green It's got to be better than the heart attack scenerio. Wink Hey, if Mark can try to trip a minivan in Florida, you can show them what Winter Texans can do!

So, let's see... at $1.67 per day... 16 foot boat... that's about 10.4 cents per foot. Not bad after Key West, eh? Cool

Looking forward to seeing you when schedules work out.

Merry Christmas,
Jim

The fishing is beginning to pick up a little here in the coastal bend of Texas. I caught a keeper Spotted Sea Trout (they have to be over 15") and two nice Red Drum (they must be between 20" and 28"). The summer hurricanes-Dolly and Ike- have wreaked havoc on the coastal flats fishing here. There were large intrusions of fresh water into the shallow flats inside the barrier islands. The runoff also washed nasty things in from the land, chemicals and who knows what. consequently there was a die off of the marine critters that feed the fish. It is slowly getting back to normal.

The weather is good-days in the 60s to low 90s, nights in the 50s & 60s. We do get occasional cold fronts that last for a day or two, but only drop the temps a few degrees. We are not quite as warm here as Wild Blue is in the tropical tip. We really do appreciate the weather and have empathy for those of you in the cold and snow. We've spent lots of winters in Utah. Retirement is great!

We are still in Rockport, Texas. It's been almost four months since we left home in Utah. Nov. and Dec. we spent in Florida, and we have been in Rockport for more than two months.

Tuesday (Feb. 17) was the 5th annual park fishing tourney. The day dawned cool and windy.

There were 36 entry's this year. Mark, my brother in law and I fished together. Here we are awaiting the starters gun.

This is the official weigh-in station.

Our team only caught a few, but Mark did take second place with his two Reds.

Activity at the cleaning station was brisk, after weigh in.

This year's participants. I didn't do to well this year. Mark was second place, due to my excellent guiding. I did win the tourney in 2006.

We will be home in mid March. We plan to get to Powell as often as possible, and will attend any C-Brat gathering in the fall. We have two houses to clean up and get on the market this spring. So, no spring trips this year.

Brent, did you take Discovery home after FL and then go back to TX with the 5th Wheel rig?

Warren

Warren,

No, we have the TomCat here in Rockport. Still have the truck and camper here as well. The big change was the purchase of a new 2008 Discovery 40X motorhome. The camper was too confining for the long haul. Now we have a Lance 1030 Camper for sale. Also a Carriage 32' 5th wheel, at home also for sale.

The trick will be to get everything home. We will pull the TomCat with the truck/camper as before. We can switch off driving the rigs. I have been giving Dixie driving lessons in the motorhome. Only 1600 miles to home.

I am envious of your new rig! Twisted Evil Were you able to get it at a fire sale price in FL? or TX? Did you buy it because of the name? Laughing
