James,

Thankyou,
The thought of y'all suffering in Hawaii sustained me as I broke the ice on the rainwater barrel to get water for a "royal flush". (Amazing what critters live in there !!)
The propane crab boiler does a great job of sterilizing large quantities of rainwater for dishwashing (and cooks all the critters !)
Now I will join the merry festive throng at the gas station for the third re-fill of my 3 x 5 gall containers so I can keep the generator going. I'm keeping the boat tanks as reserve.

Hope Home Depot has power so I can get bits to patch roof while I wait for one of the (soon to be) millionaire contractors to come and fix it properly.

Happy Holidays,

Merv

It seems the terrible weather that ravished the NW is now crossing the Rockies toward us in the high country -- looks like we'll have four or five days of snow for the ski areas and probably some down here in the foothills.

Sure sorry for the hard times for many of you folks in WA-OR --

Same here. I have a quadriplegic friend living in Mukilteo who lost power for over 24 hours and still hasn't got land line phone service back. Fortunately he isn't ventilator dependent so other than being a bit chilly, a little hungry and a whole lot bored, he came through in fine shape considering.

Sue and I are at the cabin in Northern California...where it snowed about 1/2" last night but it's already 50 degrees out n the snow is melting fast....
The Tug is finished and safely stored in the boat house for the winter...
It's not quite Hawaii but I kin wear the shirt anyhow...

Hope all you folks up in the PNW are recovering from the weather onslaught. I know you endured a lot of difficult hardships.

Here in Northern California the morning dawned clear and cold, and we're going to have a beautiful day, as Joel mentioned.

Joel- Congradulations on completing the restoration of Kea! I'm sure it was a lot of work, but it's behind you now! You might describe how you fixed the rudder problem on the "Kea Wrecked!" thread.

Joe.

The rudder was easy.....I diden't do it... I could not find a good used one...so I may have to build a new one...out of stainless...I have months to watch EBAY for a used one/...... the problem is that my rudder had a 1 1/8" thick shaft and everything I find that would work well has a 1 1/2" thick shaft.... I guess I could rig up some sort of homemade lathe and grind the shaft down some, but hopefully between now and summer somthing will turn up....

I launched on Lake Washington on Saturday, had it pretty much to myself. No heat at home, so what the heck. No waves, very calm...sky was very polluted due to everyone having fireplaces cranking.

I'm still enjoying the first Maui C-Brat gathering, enjoyed a nice meal the other day with Jim & Joan.....I got mugged today...by a wave...the kid and I where trying to body surf, got sand packed into every orifice. I sure hope the house is still standing and the pipes haven't frozen when we get back home.

So, David, you're sayin' this would be a really good time to fly up there to putt around on a new boat?

Acutaly, I am hoping that all this nightmare weather you've been having will exhaust the supply by this Thursday, when it will turn sunny and calm and warm, and nice and.....

Actually it was all a bit like backwoods camping except you don't have the option to move camp!

While we complain there were (and still are) others far less fortunate. It was truly amazing to see how many people with special needs were having to make do with far less than those of us with generator provided heat and light.
Did anyone else feel weird going out and driving around and finding nothing unusual. You kind of expect there to be CNN "talking heads" on each street corner each blocking the view of the disaster they are describing. But no, just a few trees down here and there, otherwise everything was normal until the first intersection with no lights !!

And of course, it has been great boating weather for a couple of days. Maybe we should have just moved down to the marina for a couple of days. (maybe not with two large German Shepherds)

John, the waters are flat and calm. I am going to try and get out for at least an overnight between Chrismas and NY. I have an 8 hour USCGAux patrol scheduled for the 29th. I will be on a Bayliner 34, "Tranquility Base".

Thanks, David. Will you be patrolling around Guemes Is.? ...or Anacortes? I will be having to pull the boat out at Edmonds the night of the 29th or the morning of the 30th, so prob won't be that far north at that time. Maybe I'll have full confidence by then!!! LOL

Merv, have you not heard of the term "three dog night"? Wink

It hasn't been easy for the C-Brats here on the Valley Isle, either. Why just this morning, there was only 3 bites of ice cream left in the freezer. Cool And yesterday, just before 6:00 pm local, I had to squint...

And on Kaanapali Beach yesterday, there were only two girls in thongs. (No photo available.)

Hoping for a very rapid improvement in conditions for y'all.

Best wishes,
Jim B.
