Daybreak,
I wonder what had you decide you needed a permit. The actual RCW (WA laws) say under RCW 77.135.230:
(7)(a) The following nonresident aquatic conveyances are exempt from aquatic invasive species prevention permit requirements under this section while placed or operated on shared boundary waters of the state:
(i) Vessels having valid state of Idaho or Oregon registration or numbering
Reading this, I would think you are exempt. _________________ Sandy McKean

pcg,
Ah, I see now. I thought the 2 lines were independent. I see now that the 2nd line is a subset of the first line. |

Thanks Sandy,
Trust me, I did not want to buy the Washington State Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) permit today. I called WDFW this afternoon and explained to the agent that I would be taking my Oregon registered boat with included Oregon AIS permit to the San Juans next month and asked the agent if I also needed a Washington State AIS permit. She said, "Yes."
The WDFW website says, "Vessels registered in Idaho or Oregon, when those vessels are being used in shared state waters (generally private recreational unless otherwise registered; specific to shared waters of the Columbia River with Oregon and the Snake River with Idaho are exempt from needing the permit." These waters do not apply to the San Juans.
Being born in Washington State and enjoying the waters of Puget Sound and the San Juans helped ease the pain in buying the permit. _________________ Gary F

Hi everyone! Looking forward to meeting all the C-Dory people on this trip. We are planning on leaving John Wayne Marina early Saturday the 15th, weather permitting. This will be our first trip across the sound and would like to join at least one other boater. We are a little flexible on timing, but need to let our pet sitter know ASAP. Please let us know if you are available. Thanks Carl and Fran! |

For those launching from Sequim, John Wayne Marina, If the crossing in the afternoon looks "not so good", It is just a couple miles down to the Sequim Bay State Park. Stay there for the overnight, and leave early the next morning. Much more likely to have agreeable weather (winds) then, IF you leave the State Park Dock early (daybreak). YMMV of course.

We have nine vessels who are signed up on the C-BRAT "Join Event Sign Up" page that have not sent their additional information via PM to DayBreak so that our info sheet can be complete for the Port of FH.
Please, do that. P L E A S E .
and Thank you.

Thanks Harvey. We will watch Sequim hourly weather report and note the noaa Smith Island report before attempting a cross. May hold over until early Tuesday morning from the Sequim State Park dock.
Carl and Fran, any chance you can move up the date in making your first crossing to the San Juans? Wish you safe travels. |

Carl, There is computer service, (Wifi) at Friday Harbor. (Just if you are interested.) Also, if you are coming over on Sat 5/15, are you returning to Sequim Sunday?
Again, those crossings are definitely weather dependent.

A personal note. I have been having to deal with a sick fridge that just turned toes up yesterday after one days warning. So, will not be launching today for the Deception Pass connection. Will still try to launch before Thurs. If there is anyone who is planning on meeting at Deception State Park, and needs some assistance please text or call me.

So... I'd love to go but I just bought my boat and I thought I'd be more ready by now.
Guess what? I didn't know until today that you're supposed to put a plug in the rear before you get underway. Well, the point is it's total amateurs hour.
Ohh... and my pickup is over at Bellevue Dodge getting a camshaft replaced (and on backorder), so I'm pulling the boat home with a rental car.
I'm guessing popping open Google maps (Or aqua maps...) and following the magenta line isn't the brightest thing with my experience either...
So... what's the ask? Perhaps you're an experienced captain from the Puget Sound area without a boat and want to get out on the water. Care to go to the gathering and show me the ropes?
Brownie points if you have something to launch it with so I don't have to grab a rental car, but I can do that if needed.
Weird proposal, I know, but if you're interested let me know!
Most people would have thrown in the towel, but hey, I'm trying |
