Hi, I am in the progress of setting up a new to me 16' Angler. It has a yamaha 40 main and I would really like to have a kicker on it (peace of mind with a second go go device).
The tricky part is the transducers on the starboard side prevent that location (other than a large drop down bracket) as one is out about 12" (lowrance structure scan). On the port side of the boat I have the swim deck that is seen on a few 16' C-Dory boats.
I'm contemplating using one of those static "L" brackets made for kickers to go onto the back edge of swim decks. It would be an easy install and balance the boat better. Kicker is a Honda BF5 short, which is about 60lbs. However I've never seen a kicker mount like this with the little swim deck used on the 16 Dory. Has anybody done this set up?
Thank oyu for your time reading this and any help or advice. |

Ideally, just ideally from my perspective, I would remove the swim platform from the port side and put the kicker there. Then I would put a Permatrim on the Yahmaha and use that (with the motor off) for a swim step. That's just me of course. _________________ MartyP

I use one of the "L" brackets for outboards on the swim step of my 18' Caracal. It is set up so it can be removed. Put SS backing plates under the bolts on down side. I have used both the Torqeedo and 3.5 hp 2 stroke Merc. I would not put a 9.9 on there, without some very substantial upgrades.
