|
|
Hey guys! I was wondering if someone could tell me how long their Tomcat 255 is from the front of the trailer to the props? I am interested in seeing how much space it would take in my side yard.
Thanks!

It depends a bit on the trailer but on my FloatOn trailer with the engines down, its about 39' from prop to the front of the receiver on the trailer. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

Caracal,
Good to see another Caracal Cat, especially with a Suzuki 140 on the forum! You will find that the Tom Cat handles very similarly to the Caracal...and has about the same ride.
I figured that mine on the Float On Trailer was at least 37 feet with the motor trimmed in, and could easily be 39 if the motor were trimmed up.
I would not suggest a folding tongue, or any way of shortening the trailer. In my opinion the Float on Trailer made for the Tom Cat is the best.
Good luck with your search. You will need a 3/4 ton truck to pull the Tom Cat. They are at least 10,000 lbs on the trailer ready for the road. _________________ Bob Austin

My trailer alone is 35 feet, and the bracket plus engine cowling total I agree about 38-39 feet. Trimmed full down, the engine cowlings will hit the chainlink fence before the prop (don't ask how I know this). And you don't want to back up all the way since it's VERY difficult to board a 255 from the trailer fenders for the over-30 geezers. Leave room to squeeze around the engines and board from the bracket with railings. A Flip N Lite Lil' Giant 6 ft stepladder model #15270 fits great and also in the pickup bed.
cheers!
John

2006 TomCat with Honda hydrofoils on 135 HP engines, trimmed all the way down. EZ Loader standard TomCat trailer. 34'-8"" tip of tongue to tip of foils.
With the engine trimmed down the powerhead may extend a little rearward of the foils.
It all fits within 35' _________________

Thank you very much for the responses. I am doing some landscaping around the house and I plan on making sure that I put the side fence in the right place so I can fit my next boat there. I am a very future oriented person! The Caracal is a great little boat, I plan on having that thing forever. I will make sure I lay it out the landscaping to accommodate 35-40 feet. I really like this forum community. I hope to be able to contribute with a C-Dory of my own in the near future! |
