Purchased a TC255 in September 2007 and was wondering if anyone knows what type of resin C-Dory uses on their hulls? Polyester or Vinylester resin?

When I talked to the factory in 2006, I was told that the Tomcat hull was laid with Vinylester resin.

If you are considering bottom paint, there is a lot of stuff on this site on bottom paint/epoxy/vinyester/blisters

My understanding is that there is one layer of vinylester resin after the gel coat. It was not entirely clear if this was with the layer of fabric or just vinlyester resin. I believe that the vast majority of the layup is polyester resin. There are very few boats which are fully built with vinlyester resin. It is considerably more expensive, has slightly better bonding and slightly better water permeability resistance.

The only documentation I have seen is in the Skagit Orca layup--that is that under the Cook gel coat, there is 1.5 oz of "Vinylester resin". If the boat was entirely laid up with vinylester, I believe that this would be highly touted.

I will defer to Bob's "thataway" Austin's more detailed explanation above. He knows a lot more about this than many of us.
