Portland Pudgy is the neatest dingy I have ever seen. Back years ago I had a nine foot Boston Whaler. It was so unstable we sold it and went to an inflatable. Yesterday I put the pudgy in the water for a sea trial, with the new Honda long shaft.( two horse)
The side compartments allow the oars, life jackets, sails & mast, fenders, fishing gear and any other gadget to be stowed away, out from under foot. The weaver dive platfrom mounting gear works easily with the help of the weaver winch.

I predict this will become thee dingy you will see for pocket trawlers and sail boats. That is if they ever perfect the manufacturing process to get it right. Thanks to the C-Brats site and Island Ranger for bringing this dingy to light.
Thumbs Up

Captd,
I'm afraid the Pudgy is a bit too "pudgy" for the 21 Ranger. I don't know how we would be able to conveniently stow it. I think we will go with an inflatable that is light enough to stow on top of the bimini cross ribs and use oars instead of a motor. It looks like a good fit for the 25's though.

We've had a recent thread on Dinghy Options for the Ranger 25? that discussed this cute little boat.

How many have bought one?

Island Ranger like myself, Have a couple extra dinks we would part with. I have the West Marine $200 one, fish hunter, plus a Serveylor kayak. Cheap stuff. The WM one would work on the smallest boat. I carried it on the dive platform, but could have easly have thrown it on top of the cabin.

My Pudgy is only about hull # 36. I don't know if they have all the bugs out of them yet. They moved the process to Portland , Maine.
I still don't know if the small leak has stop. The leak was on the outer skin.
I have to pull it out of the water to check. I have ordered a white one when they get all the bugs out of it. They have very few bugs on the one that have been sold.

The Pudgy has worked out really well for us. You can drag it along the ground, bump it into things, it is really stable, holds a lot for its' size, tows well and fits the Ranger 25 on weaver davits so it is easily launched and retrieved. We did that a lot during our cruise up the inside passage. Being certified as a survival raft helps our cruising confidence as well.

We are still waiting for ours (that we ordered many, many months ago. We continue to use the loaner (orange) - and have been labeled the "Ranger with the orange bum" by several people. Sure is distinctive.

The Factory is continuing to struggle with the mold, although I did get a note from Tony the other day that:
1) good news - they molded some boats successfully
2) bad news - the price has increased
3) good news - since we ordered it already, they will honor the old price for us
4) bad news - they need a higher deposit 'cause he has to prepay freight to get the boats here

Latest forecast is that we will get our boat in January. We had the option to cancel several times, and get our $$ back, but I still think it is the best dinghy choice for the Ranger 25 that there is.

What does one cost? Roughly... just wondering as they don't post prices online and I didn't feel like giving up infor for a quote when I'm in the "just wondering" phase.

Latest pricing appears to be $2195 for the boat, and additional $400 freight for Washington delivery. It used to be $1895, and no freight charge. Of course, that was a year ago, and you couldn'y get one anyway!
