Single engine or twins?

The great debate is whether a 25' cruiser needs two engines to manuver or is a single engine enough?

Indeed a great debate. If you do a search there are many threads on the subject. In the search title bar, write the words "single and twins" without the quotes and you will be reading for hours.

I questioned the very same when I began my C-dory research into the C-25.

We have a CD-25 with a 135 Honda and we are very pleased with the handling and performance. Fully loaded on flat water it's done 26.7 knots by GPS. On the St. John's River in Florida last month we poked along for a week and burned 44 gallons of gas but I believe we go slower than most. The nearest salt water to us is South Port N.C. Larry

Take a look up top at some of the "main menu" ares from the home and/or just about any other page. The second one is Forums. Most things have been talked about in depth several time. I am not suggesting that you do not ask questions.... but, I know how it is when you are new on some sites. I can spend much time just going down the second menu column under "FORUMS" and scrolling down for "sub areas".

Happy Boat Hunting, take your time, look around, go to some gatherings and see the boats in the water with stuff on them. A large difference than boats under the bright lights and flat concrete floors at a boat show. Boat shows are great to just get on the boat, to appreciate and/or truly evaluate the boats, you need to get on the water.

Although you might some some increased maneuverability with twins, they are set closely together and it will not be like in a twin screw inboard power boat or the Tom Cat.
I personally find that in boats the size of the CD 25 that a single is very good for maneuvering. Personally the only reason I would consider twins would be for the faster speed if you had to run on one of the twins vs a kicker--I would not make that decision based on maneuverability. Remember that an outboard moves the thrust, and is much more maneuverable than a similar sized inboard.

I just got my new 22 a few months ago. I had the same dilemma. Twins or single and kicker. I was initially going to go twins, then I found out the boat won't plane with one engine anyway. So why twins? Then I thought why use a big motor for fishing? Better to use a kicker. All in all it made more sense for a single with a kicker. But that was just me.
