Discovery is getting a new home port. It won't be any closer to the ocean, but it will be closer to Lake Powell. We live in Richfield currently and are building our (well maybe Brent's) dream retirement home in Loa, Utah about 45 miles away. It is a 4 bay garage (50' x100') with an attached 1500 sq ft house. The garage doors are 16' x 14' so it will be easy to park the TC255 and other toys inside. Our grandson calls it our long house and he isn't kidding.
We are including two full RV (or boat) hookups so anyone that would like to come visit is welcome. Our daughter lives across the street, so we know that it's a nice neighborhood. As a matter of fact, she is our only neighbor unless you count the cemetery across the road the other direction.
Full view of the garage and house under construction
We are expecting the major part of the building exterior to be completed before we leave to go to the Texas coast for the winter. That will be shortly after Christmas. The remaining finish work, we will complete next spring.
There are other pixs of the project in the Discovery Album, and we will update the album as the work progresses. It is the strangest building project in the county, but all the guys think it's great. Wish they had one just like it. I'm hoping the landscaping and other feminine touches will keep it from looking like another C-Dory Factory building.
We'll keep you posted, and we're always open to input or suggestions. _________________

We were looking at the pix as you posted them... and feeling a serious case of "garage envy" here! Exciting to see it taking shape. See you this winter.
Best wishes,

Years ago, when Judy and I got married and built a new house, she had the idea that a garage is to keep cars in. She now knows better. I am really envious of the indoor working space you all will have. You can work on the boat all winter.

Au contrare, Boris. Those garages will be a great place to leave vehicles and stuff while they are out boating and/or RVing all winter! |

Thats great!
I've alway thought about renovating an old barn with living quarters upstairs. It would drive the building department crazy proving the area seperation walls! hehe _________________ Roger

You guys remind me of my cousin Bill, who lives in Hansville (on the Olympic Peninsula.) He is a true boat bum in the summer and a ski bum in the winter (just like Brent, or like Brent used to be anyway.) Bill salvaged an wooden 8-meter racing sailboat (think America's Cup boats, but 2/3 the size). He bought some property, built a boathouse to restore Sulaire, and as an afterthought, built an apartment with a bedroom that is cantilevered out over the shop. Pictures can be seen HERE.
After Bill got married the house started catching up with the shop!

We have been making progress on the new garage and home project.
The roof is complete and the roofing metal is started. The windows and some of the walk doors are in, and the garage overhead doors are complete.

A few more pix of the progress.
The front of the Garage will be stuccoed.
The metal is finished on the North and West garage walls, also the soffit and facias.
The house portion will also be stuccoed.
The daytime temps. are not making it above freezing, and the nights are getting below zero now. We will go to Texas the day after Christmas, and come back to Utah in mid March. Time to get away from the cold, catch some Redfish, and visit with Jim and Joan--Wild Blue. House building will have to wait. |

We're excited for you - it's looking great! Excited for us, too, 'cause we'll get to see you soon.
To give you something to look forward to: today it was 79º, sunny, light breeze... and NO snow! Long range weather predictions are for a warmer and dryer winter than usual.
Looking forward to seeing you!
Best wishes,

We have returned from our winter in Rockport Texas, and are back at work on the house. We have had the 4 way inspection and insulated the walls. Last week I did some fine grading on the yard, to get started on steps, and sidewalks, etc. Then the weather went back to winter overnight. Yesterday it was 23 F. at noon. Looks like stucco, and exterior concrete will have to wait. Today the sheetrock is to begin.

Sure am glad I missed that weather when I was there! Would have frozen up my trailer's plumbing for sure. As it was, Salt Lake was cold and wet, but not freezing. Made it home without any known damage to the rig.

It looks great. Very similar to my ideal house - an one bedroom house with a ten car garage. |
