Perfect weather--absolutely on Saturday. I cannot say the same for Thursday, Friday or Sunday.....but that is life.
I have posted a dozen or so photos on the "Thataway" album:
I'll get some video clips on "u Tube" later of the "cruise"
We would be hard pressed to find a better venue for a gathering--how about some of those folks who are getting cold this time of the year comming down next year! _________________ Bob Austin

Good Hat, Good Dog & Good Boat….the Oyster Boys sure know what counts in life. I would have to add Good Food, Good Friends and Great Host to the list to make it complete.
We just got home from the 2nd Annual Gulf Coast C-Dory Gathering in Applatchacola, Fl. Hosted by Wefing's Marine of Eastpoint, Fl. (just across the river). Marc and Anita, John and Sherry and their families and staff made it an outstanding time for all who attended. We were catered to at every turn and provided some of the best in both food and drink. But being made to feel welcome in their home is what will be remembered long after the taste of the food and drink have faded.
Mother Nature gave us a slap in the face on Friday with a Gully Washer of a Rain….but cleared the sky for Friday nights meal and poured in the sunshine on Saturday for a wonderful cruise of the area rivers.
John whipped up an outstanding breakfast of scrambled eggs, home fries, grits, and hot cakes on Sunday morning so that we all left with a full tummy and a smile on our faces.
So from the captain’s and crews from Naples, a very grateful thank you to all our C-Brat family for making this a wonderful time for us all.
PS: Photos will be posted as soon as we have a Album Setup... _________________ Mike Taylor

Mike ,thanks for the thanks ! I got a call from a boat Mfg rep buddy of mine Mon. He said he saw 3 C Dorys in one day driving south and named them . It was Papillion and Duck as well as another 16 we had delivered to Cedar Key [non attendee] . I told him it was the annual migration from Apalachicola back to Naples . Ill look forward to next year and if we get down to Naples , we will visit for sure .

Yes it was another great year in Eastpoint. Thanks to John and Sherie for once again "opening that new marina" (via radio call on vhf) just above the train bridge on right bank desending. A great location for sure. The little river cruises were again a blast and great opportunity to slow things down a bit with friends and run some shallow waters. The food....wow...I am surprised that I have had to eat again already...I only left Sunday!! Weather getting home was less than perfect for the long drive, but hey...it was a great trip. Thanks to C-Pearl and bride for putting me up to bust the ride home into two 5 hour legs rather than a real long one in/on rainy weather and tired. Much, much laughter.
Marc, please be sure to thank your crew from Wefings. Lee was great with his meal prep and oyster bar for sure, the new kid, (sorry...missed his name) did a great job with the fried goods, and Miss Anita was a true blessing on the omelette stand Saturday morning. It was fun.
Now...part of gatherings are the constant go back to places, and John's house is for sure one of these places....but... FL is a big place...with many, many other fine water areas.... Tallahassee, Pensacola, Naples....come on... some of yall other C-Brats toss out some dates/locations too. A lot to see and fun places to go!!
Thanks again to all who came to the event. It was fun to again be in another gathering.

When it comes to awarding prizes for coming the farest by boat or car...etc. Then most groups will have caps, shirts or vest with the C-Dory logo on them to give out for prizes....Not the Gulf Coast Group....We go for the Gusto, a prize coveted by those who know the value of endorsement.....the value of things of less material value. We take pride in knowing we have won the top prize....known to the locals as the Byrdman Hug.

Thanks to John, Sherie, Marc,Anita and the whole Wefing's gang. The gathering was excellent. We had a great time. If you did not come, you missed a great party. Thanks to all who came. We learned so much from each of you. We are looking forward to getting together again. We moved our boat Monday to Gulf Breeze from Fort Walton Beach. Marc and Charlie the company has shipped the plumbing parts. Hope our water system is back in business soon. Thanks again to everyone-- it was one great party.

Mike, you left out the photos of those wonderful little Papillions!--Seems to be that one of them got a little wet, and Anita Grove, helped "rescue" him...
Great fun!

Bill,.... Thanks for the photo album.
Had a great time seeing many of you again, had a great time meeting some new folks too. Posted a few pics of our good time at the C-Brat gathering. Hope to visit some more of the FL waters in the near future too.
Yall come on up to TN any time you want. Twist my arm just a bit and we'll run the rivers a bit. Nashville is fun via the river.

THERE IS NO BETTER OMLETT COOK THAN THE BYRDMAN AND NO BETTER FRIEND.
"FALCON" IS TUCKED AWAY IN THE TRACTOR SHEAD. A VERY PLEASENT GATHERING AND CRUISING THE 403.8 MILES ROUND TRIP ON THE ICW WAS AN ADVENTURE EVEN THOUGH IT RAINED EVERY DAY. ON OUR SECOND ANCHORAGE NEAR FORT WALTON BEACH I PULLED THE ANCHOR DRESSED ONLY IN MY UNDER SHORTS IN HEAVY RAIN, AND BRENDA SAID I NEEDED THE SHOWER.
BRENDA AND I HAD A GREAT TIME AND LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT GULF COAST GATHERING.
CLEANING THE RUST ORANGE STAIN OFF THE HULL:
I USED C L R (BY JELMAR) I HOPE THE GELL COAT IS NOT DAMAGED BY USING THIS PRODUCT
RED TIDE
THE WAKE OF OUR MOTOR TURNED RED FROM ABOUT FORT WALTON BEACH AND MILLIONS OF DEAD FISH ALL THE WAY TO GULF SHORES, MAN THIS IS FRIGHTING LIKE THE END OF THE WORLD IS NEAR.
I FIND THE C-BRAT SIGHT FACINATING AND THERE SEEMS TO BE NO INFORMATION ABOUT BOATING THAT IS NOT DISCUSSED.
THANKS TO ALL FOR MAKING TWO ARKANSAS BOATERS FEEL WARM AND WELCOME.
THANKS

Bill and Brenda: Come east !
Boating the Cumberland for a pre-gathering cruise from Tuesday 6Nov down river from Mom's 60 miles to the Nashville City Dock. Wednesday 7Nov down river from Nashville 60 miles to Clarksville City Dock. Down river from Clarksville 60 miles to Lake Barkley State Park & Marina in Cadiz, KY....and hit the big ol buffett up in the State Park's Lodge overlooking the waters. The trees are getting pretty and the weather great!
Then, the gathering ....basically a reverse of this route...OR...if just one or two boats end up making this fall gathering and Thanksgiving dinner @ "Momma Byrds'"... we may just sit at the docks, take out the Qumby's Guide.... and chart other waters from the Heartland Area for a weekish. We are basically right at the intersections of the Cumberland, TN, OH, MS rivers.... endless opportunities. Don't worry...we will make the Thanksgiving dinner by boat, plane, car, bus...something.
Sorry to hear about the family issues that kept some from coming, and Terry, tell Bonnie to retire as soon as she can. Sure will miss the two of you on this cruise from NY too. Sorry my "little buddy" Roger on SENSIE will not be able to make the Thanksgiving gathering due to a shift in schedules of some crops at the Farm, but see you when you can come. |
