Does anyone have any recommendations (both plus and minus) for a stereo system for a CDory? I would like to have someway to connect in my iPod.

I think there was an earlier post and link to Tivoli Audio. They make a nice radio/speaker. I just use some active computer speakers and plug in my sirrius. Not surround sound but okay.

We use a Sirius Sportster Replay with a boombox. It has good sound and can be moved from the dash area to the cockpit. It has an aux input so you can run your iPod through there - sure beats carrying a bunch of CDs!

I installed one of the newer Alpine car stereos. I figured that because it is inside an enclosed cabin, there is no need for a "marine" stereo. It works great and it has a dedicated cable that attaches to the ipod so that you can access and control the ipod directly thru the stereo controls. I think other manufacturers offer similar control.

I installed this a year ago and it's great. I've got tv shows, movies and 1300 songs stored on an 8gb Travel Drive the size of a nail clipper. But I've been thinking of upgrading to something like this. Single din unit plays giga mp3s(burned to a 4.7 gb dvd) and sports a 7 inch lcd screen that emerges so you can view your video on it too. I've seen others that accept gps input and offer bluetooth and/or cell phone intercom as well. Oh what an age we live in.

I haven't settled on a stereo control unit yet but bought these speakers based on the recommendations of several Brats.

I picked this stereo up at Costco. I don’t have an iPod, but you can play your iPod through it. I got it because it fit on my top shelf and has good sound quality for a small unit. The speaker system is copied from the Bose radio. The sound is not quite as good as the Bose but is the closest thing I have found. The only problem with it is, it is 110v ac or 6v dc so you have some modifying to hook it to your boats electrical system.

I installed a fairly basic Sony. It supports aux inputs, and so you should be
able to connect an iPod to it. I connect a DVD player. I put a small connector
that ends with the 1/8" minjack from Westmarine. Seems to work well.

As for speakers, I went with small speakers mounted under the overhead
shelf. They are mounted such that they do not block my vision. I
prefer them up front as vs. the dinette area so they do not blast into
the ear of anyone sitting in the rear dinette seat. Also, we were afraid
someone sitting in that seat could hit their head on the speaker.
The speakers are from West Marine. Also, running wire to the
speakers is easy Smile

The ones I have in my album make OK sound. No real bass. However,
I installed a pair of Poly-Planar MA-800s in the gunnels. They make
better bass which reflects into the cabin.

The Audio Source LS-200/400 speakers are nice. But, they are too
large to hang from the forward shelf IMO, and they do not fit in
a 2002 CD-22 gunnel. I ended up selling mine on Ebay.

This is not a setup for an audiophile, but it works OK, is not obtrusive,
and uses mostly dead space.

As the for stereo itself: hard to say. I wonder if spending lots of money
on a head unit is worth it. Will it last? My previous experience with
"marine" stereos has been that they do not last long. The analog
volume control on the DVD player already failed and the DVD player
gets stored in a nice bag.

HAS ANYONE TRIED OR LOOKED AT AN UNDER COUNTER KITCHEN STEREO SYSTEM. I'VE SEEN SEVERAL THAT HAD TV/DVD/CD/IPOD ALL IN ONE UNIT. SOUND QUALITY MAY NOT BE GREAT BUT SURE WOULD SAVE SPACE MOUNTED UNDER FRONT SHELF. NOT SURE IF IT WOULD BE RUGGED ENOUGH FOR A BOAT. I BELIEVE IT WOULD REQUIRE A SMALL INVERTER. INTERESTED IN ANY THOUGHTS.

My stereo doesn't have aux pre-amp inputs so I bought a small amplifier ($29) and a switch at Fry's Electronics, the amp is 3"x3"x1". I plug my DVD player's audio into the amp for watching movies using my 4-speaker system for the sound. My son plugs in his iPod for 'his' kind of music. The switch is to ensure that the power to the stereo OR the amp is ON at one time.
