Laurie and I have had our new CD 25 since May 2007. We are very pleased with it and look forward to enjoying it for many years.

I grew up on the Chesapeake but haven't had a boat since I was 20 - 30 years ago. Laurie convinced me to buy a boat now rather than wait until I retire - she's a great wife! The hardest part for me is not being able to boat enough.

My question is: 4 snaps have popped/stripped out - 2 rivet types in the interior door and 2 screw in types in the cockpit seats. What is the best and easiest way to reinstall these. Some have suggested glue? Please note I am not very handy.

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Dick

Dick, I would think that for the screw in ones, you'd best remove the snaps, fill the holes with a white epoxy, let it harden and then drill a small pilot hole and install NEW screw in snaps. They're available at West Marine.

As for the door, I think you've got a "plastic" door. If it's in plastic, do the same as for the cockpit. If it's riveted into a metal window frame or other metal, see if the screw in kind of snap is bigger than the hole you have. If so, screw them in. If not, you'll have to get a product like "JB Weld", available either at West Marine or hardware stores, mix it (it's two part), fill in the holes and drill a small pilot hole and use the screw in snaps.

Dick,

In any location where it is possible, the best fix is to use thru bolts.

Dick, I've had that happen a couple of times. The most irritating was the top right screw in the front window frame. Stripped by the factory I believe.

I simply unscrewed the snap/screw, cut off a small section of a fairly small plastic "wire wrap", inserted the plastic into the hole until it bottomed out and screwed the screw back in.

Certainly not an "approved" method but I haven't had problems since and only when your message referred to those popped snaps did I remember "Oh yah, I meant to go back and do it right." Probably won't 'till it pops out. Maybe never, with luck....

Don

My method is Marine Tex in the hull and JB weld in aluminum frames. If into Starboard--good lucko-you might try and do a little flame welding--there are filler kits thru auto motive supply--but it gets a bit complicated. Easier to just drill a new hole, and then move the snap.

I usually put a little 5200 on the thread of the snap when I put it back in. This snaps comming loose is common ia all brands of boats.
