This 1994 version seems to be plywood of some sort with a veneer exterior, with is badly weathered but still very solid. I'd like to "pretty" it up a bit...any suggestions? It must be good stuph as the top edge is unprotected laminate that must have caught some water over the years but is still solid. I'm going to cap it off with a piece of stainless trim anyway, just because it rubs me the wrong way just to leave it open to the elements.
Would some sort of epoxy paint be sufficient for the exterior?

Many here have used Cetol with satisfactory results - use the search to read about others' experiences.

I also have used Cetol. If you want to paint, consider sanding with 120 to scratch the surface of the laminate, then use an epoxy to fill any dings, sand smooth, use a high build primer such as the International. Then either Brightside, Toplac or Easypoxy as a final paint. I found that the Hatteras white was pleasing on the C Dory paint. The Easypoxy has some epoxy solids, but is not a true epoxy paint. If you want a hard finish, then consider an high build epoxy primer, with a two part urethane paint. Probably the best application is with roller and tip with a brush to get a finish almost as good as a sprayed finish.

Here's some before/after pics from a late friend of ours.

And here are his words describing the process he used.

I used Pettit Easypoxy on my rear cabin wall. Also the door both inside and out as it is usually open.
Clean surfaces with acetone or some other good solvent and then brush painted on the Easypoxy. It levels out to look like it was sprayed on.
It has been on for 10 yrs. and still looks good except for a few knicks etc. from use.
My photo album shows what it looks like.
